OverviewPosition Summary:The Respiratory Care Practitioner Specialist, under direct supervision, serves as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, conducts patient assessments, assists with the development of the plan of care, provides and evaluates general, basic patient care with assistance to an assigned group of patients according to patient specific age and/or developmental needs. Collaborates with other health care team members in the delivery of care. Employee will follow applicable policies and procedures in handling supplies, pharmaceuticals, and equipment.The Emergency Department at Children's Hospital Los Angeles is a 41-bed tertiary care facility with an annual volume of nearly 80,000 visits, a dedicated Urgent care area and two Trauma bays. The patient population served ranges from neonates to adolescents with a large number of these patients having high acuity and complex medical conditions. The ED has been the 3rd Children's Hospital in the US to receive the ENA Lantern Award for innovation, quality, excellence and healthy work environment.Minimum Qualifications:Graduate of an A.M.A. approved two-year School of Respiratory Care.Three years' experience as a RCP II, in a neonatal/pediatric ICU.Working Conditions/Physical Demands: Heavy physical effort (lift/carry up to 50 lbs). Frequent prolonged standing/walking. Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients. Lifts supplies/equipment. Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching. May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases. Handles emergency or crisis situations. May perform emergency care. Requires judgment/action which could result in death of patient. Equipment/Machines Used: ECMO Pump, Sat/HCT Monitor, Monitoring Equipment, BP Machine, Medical Gas Cylinders, CPT, Ventilators, 02 and Aerosols, Blood Gas Analyzers, EMR , PC, PYXIS, POC machines, Medical gas, Computers.Education/Licensure/Certifications:RCP license from the state of California.Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician (CRTT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the NBRC.Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) required.Current or within 6 months of hire Neonatal/Pediatric Specialty Credential (NPS) from the NBRC.Additional competencies may be required by the work location.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Broad knowledge of respiratory care principles and equipment; CHLA patient care policies and procedures. Ability to assess effectiveness of patient care; maintain a calm demeanor and assist in crises and emergencies; prioritize tasks for complex patient care; communicate tactfully, professionally and effectively, verbally and in writing. Pay Scale InformationUSD $72,176.00 - USD $124,384.00 CHLA values the contribution each Team Member brings to our organization. Final determination of a successful candidate's starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to education and experience within the job or the industry. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates that exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
