Note: APA operates on a 37.5-hour work week with one hour lunch breaks each day. APA sets salaries based on several considerations, including years of relevant experience, level of education, and previous staff and/or governance experience at APA. The Journal Production Editor is an experienced customer relations and project manager and serves as liaison between internal and external customers such as editors, editorial offices, authors, as well as APA production and peer review, editorial, and full-text staff. The Journal Production Editor is responsible for coordinating all aspects of production related to the print and electronic deliverables within their journal portfolio, including solving problems through careful analysis in line with existing procedures. Education and Experience Required: Bachelor's degree: Business, Accounting/Finance, English, Psychology Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills with scholarly authors, scientific editors, and vendors (composition, print, and online). A minimum of 2-3 years' experience with scholarly publications that includes a working knowledge of composition, page layout, print/online production processes, composition/XML coding, schedule and deadline management and customer service preferred. Computer Skills Required (including level of expertise): Microsoft Office Suite (User) Microsoft Outlook (User) Adobe Acrobat (User) ProduXion Manager (preferred) Salesforce (preferred) Responsibilities: Works directly with the service provider to manage work related to the print and electronic deliverables within their journal portfolio at all stages of article and issue production. Manage 12-14 journals in their portfolio, managing from the start of acceptance to issue assembly. Processes articles daily for Online First Publication, ensuring TOP Guidelines are met, copyright is correct, and the forms match the article metadata. Manages post-publication article changes for assigned journals, including retraction notices, correction notices and silent corrections. Submits updates to APA webpages for assigned journals throughout the year (e.g., calls for papers, calls for editorial fellows, updates to TOP and EDI features, special issue information). Manages year-end updates for assigned journals: schedule review, ad hoc reviewer acknowledgments, cover updates, incoming/outgoing editorials, statements of ownership, pricing updates (print and online), editorial board updates (print and online), other website updates. Communicates daily with editors, editorial offices, authors (subscribers when necessary), and APA production and peer review, editorial, and full-text staff, ensuring that production schedules and associated deadlines are met. Responsible for solving problems arising in the publication process, including with print and composition vendors, discrepancies between policy and practice, and working with appropriate members of peer review, editorial, full-text, marketing, finance, and legal counsel teams. Navigates sensitive issues arising from the publication process, requiring timely, accurate, sensitive, thoughtful, and consistent communication with APA policy. Manages biannual print and electronic updates within their journal portfolio with appropriate peer review and web team members, manages Editor transitions on the production side for journals within their portfolio, creates yearly reports and updates as needed. Other journal specific responsibilities include annual reports, editor orientations, complimentary subscriptions confluence and advertising updates. Reviews and approves invoices for copyediting, composition, printing, and electronic deliverables, reconciling discrepancies. The Journal Production Editor will be assigned a specific project each year, e.g., Salesforce, End-of-Year, etc. Responsible for solving problems arising in the publication process, including with the print vendor, discrepancies between policy and practice, and working with appropriate members of other teams. Other duties as assigned.
