1. Design treatment plans by means of computer and/or manual calculation that will deliver a prescribed dose and field placement technique in accordance with the radiation oncologists prescription to a defined tumor volume.

1.3 Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT/VMAT) plans

2. Consider dose-limiting structures in the design of treatment plans and document dose in accordance with the radiation oncologists prescription.

3. Coordinate treatment simulations and tumor localization on dedicated devices, including CT, MRI, and PET when indicated, for radiation oncology treatment planning.

4. Perform calculations for the accurate delivery of the prescribed dose, document all pertinent information on the patient record, and verify the mathematical accuracy of all calculations.

5. Perform and/or assist in the planning of the fabrication of compensation filters, custom blocks, wedges and other beam modifying devices.

6. Perform simulation, patient setup and immobilization devices.

7. Assist and perform, when indicated, in the implementation of the treatment plan including: the patient position, the correct use of immobilization devices, compensators, wedges, field arrangement, and other treatment variables.

8. Participate in research for the development and implementation of new techniques.

**Patient Care:**

* Before the first treatment on any field (initial or boost) the therapist will do the following:

check the calculations and CT simulation document with the electronic record and
treatment verify system to assure that all of the entries have been correct

* Chart will be checked to make sure that there is a signed prescription, consent form, face photo and simulation documents are present.
* Review the treatment area, planned dose, and treatment plan before the first treatment.
* Record the initial set-up date on treatment parameters electronically and report any deviation to physicist/dosimetry.
* Initial portal image is to be taken on the first treatment to verify treatment area.

**Daily Treatment Duties:**

* Daily treatments are to be done verifying the accuracy of the immobilization, laser lines, marks, and treatment parameters.
* Weekly review charts for parameter checks and the total dose given.

**Other duties:**

* Therapists are to be responsible for scheduling boost simulations as needed for patients under treatment.
* Routine Equipment: Responsible for checking daily equipment warm-ups and QA, weekly or bi-weekly.
* Maintenance/Quality Control: Machine output checks, patient safety checks and basic machine-maintenance.
* Simulation: Must be knowledgeable about and perform CT simulation procedures including patient set-ups, designing and fabricating patient immobilization and shielding devices, and CT set-ups when necessary.
* Assure accurate and complete capture of appropriate procedure and charges daily.

* Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board certified
* Associates Degree of Applied Science or certificate in Radiological Technology with acertificate in Radiation Therapy Technology
* Registration and Certification by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists inthe specific discipline of Radiation Therapy
* Maintain licensure by the State of Mississippi
* Has demonstrated knowledge of serving adult and geriatric population.
