Specific Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions: Supervises school custodial activities, ensuring the proper maintenance and cleanliness of school buildings and grounds in accordance with established regulations and standards. Assigns work loads and establishes work schedules; directs and supervises duties of assigned custodial staff. Supervisory duties include assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; allocating personnel; selecting new employees; acting on employee problems; and recommending employee transfers, promotions, discipline, discharge and salary increases. Reviews the work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy; evaluates and makes recommendations as appropriate; offers advice and assistance as needed. Inspects building thoroughly on a regular basis for safety, cleanliness, and temperature. Unlocks and secures building doors and alarms located on the school grounds. Orders and distributes supplies to staff; ensures the availability of equipment required for daily tasks; oversees the maintenance of equipment. Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports, including maintenance records, job applications, performance appraisals, time sheets, work schedules, work orders, vehicle maintenance forms, and memos. Operates a variety of equipment such as a telephone, floor buffer, carpet cleaner, vacuum, lawn mower, weed eater, hedge clipper, edger, gas leaf blower, sweeper, hand and power tools, cleaning equipment and tools. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals, such as the Principal, subordinates, school staff, students, and sales representatives. Complies with all federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, administrative rules, and directives. Additional Duties: May be required to respond to emergency calls. May set up for breakfast, lunch, special events or meetings. Conducts custodial duties as necessary, including cleaning buildings and grounds, changing light fixtures, moving furniture, performing minor repairs to equipment, etc. Unlocks building and rooms. Sets up chairs, tables and other equipment for special programs. Performs related duties as required. Minimum Education and Training Requires a high school diploma or GED, supplemented by one year of experience in building maintenance, some of which has been in a supervisory capacity, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment, including a telephone, cleaning equipment, lawn care equipment, etc. Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work; must be able to remain on feet for periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch, push, pull, climb, balance and perform manual tasks. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of up to 100 pounds.
