Custodial Supervisor Job Description

Ottawa County is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Custodial Supervisor to join our team. As a key member of our Facilities Maintenance department, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily custodial cleaning and housekeeping of our facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of custodial staff, ensuring that all areas are cleaned and maintained to a high standard.
  • Develop and implement cleaning schedules and procedures to ensure efficient and effective cleaning practices.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure that cleaning schedules and procedures align with their needs.
  • Provide training and guidance to custodial staff to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Manage and maintain cleaning equipment and supplies, ensuring that they are in good working order and that inventory levels are adequate.
  • Develop and implement budgets and contracts for custodial services, ensuring that they are aligned with the needs of the department and the county.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • At least two years of experience in custodial cleaning and maintenance, including at least one year as a lead worker or supervisor.
  • Working knowledge of principles and practices of supervision, including staff management and development.
  • Good working knowledge of federal, state, and local safety, health, and sanitation statutes, codes, and ordinances.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and diagrams and other specifications.
  • Working knowledge of preventive maintenance custodial programs and practices.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, HVAC, mechanical trades, and electrical systems.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA/MIOSHA occupational health and safety rules, regulations, and requirements.
  • Computer literacy and basic knowledge of word-processing and spreadsheet software, as well as email and calendar scheduling programs.
  • Working knowledge of the accessibility and signage requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Working Conditions:

The Custodial Supervisor will work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to moving mechanical hazards, electrical hazards, noxious fumes, dust, dirt, and other airborne particulates. The position requires the ability to work in a variety of settings, including offices, public areas, and secure areas of buildings.
