Efficient time management, excellent organizational and communication skills, and a passion for enabling high-quality science are essential.
Responsibilities:
- Provide onsite laboratory operations support 24/7, including some holidays
- Assist in the management of existing lab operations systems and processes to maximize lab productivity and organization
- Support ongoing laboratory operations with an emphasis on ordering, receiving, stocking, storage and distribution of all lab consumables, media, reagents, equipment, supplies, lab gases and any other inventory item(s) related to the operation of the laboratory. Coordinate with vendors and service providers for procurement of supplies and equipment
- Triage and respond to researchers' requests for assistance in a timely fashion
- Ensure that the safety protocols in place are being followed
- Maintain communication with Operations Manager, staff members, and vendors to ensure adherence to processes and protocols across the business
- Assist Facilities Operations Manager when needed with Logistics or Facilities related items
- Shipping and Receiving: Coordinating the safe and secure receipt and shipments of samples, research materials, and equipment
- Ensure the lab is well maintained, exceeds safety standards, and remains clean and orderly
- Find and assess new technologies to improve the operation of the lab
- Assist with the management of lab equipment including service contracts, repairs, calibrations, preventative maintenance, and new equipment installation
- Maintain the chemical reagent inventory including safety data sheets. Catalog reagents as well as returning reagents to their assigned location and organizing the reagents as needed
- Operate the autoclave and glasswasher to ensure that there is a steady supply of clean glassware available for end users
- Receive incoming chemicals and lab supplies as part of an active inventory gatekeeping system
- Manage and update the hazardous chemical inventory and Safety Data Sheet files
- Participate in Lab Ops safety walkthroughs to identify potential safety concerns or hazards
- Waste Disposal: Coordinate safe and compliant disposal of hazardous and biological waste
- Support additional Lab Ops projects (e.g. mycoplasma testing)
- B.S. degree in a scientific discipline (i.e. Biology, Chemistry, Engineering)
- 2+ years of experience working in a laboratory, either in biotech or academic is preferred
- Proven organizational and time management skills
- An understanding of the processes and protocols required in a scientific research organization
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required
