Manage and oversee employees of the Transportation, Warehouse and Utility Services Operations cost centers. Develop policies and standard operating procedures that ensure safe and efficient day-to-day operations for all cost centers. Develop specifications, purchase, and dispose of all fleet vehicles and equipment on an annual basis. Oversee warehouse operations and help develop processes that lead to accurate inventory and meet general accounting practices. Oversee the construction and maintenance activities of the cooperative’s electric system. Ensure that construction schedules are kept on time and maintenance activities are being performed on a continual basis so to provide safe and reliable service to our member-owners. Responsibilities Complies with established Dakota Electric Association safety and operating rules, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Be responsible for reporting any un-safe practices and/or hazards to a supervisor, manager, or Vice President. Be committed to and actively involved in Dakota Electric’s safety programs, initiatives, and performance measures. Prepare annual expectations for direct reports and review on a regular basis throughout the year. Handle all department employees’ complaints or concerns in an effective, timely, responsive, and confidential manner. Ensure employees have met all safety and pertinent job training requirements. Manage the disposal of all hazardous waste material generated by Dakota Electric Association. Ensure that all hazardous waste shipments are safely stored, handled, and recorded. See that all paperwork is properly filed with the proper governing agencies. File for annual Hazardous Waste License through Dakota County. File the annual Tier II report with Department of Homeland Security. Lead any hazardous waste audits be it Dakota County, MPCA or EPA. Develop the annual budget for all departments under your control.

Review annual budget monthly and report any significant variances to department V.P. Maintain flexible fuel program in accordance with Department of Energy requirements. Annually review all area policies and procedures to ensure they are being followed and see if revision is necessary. Ensure that all company vehicles are thoroughly inspected, registered, and licensed on an annual basis. Oversee annual dielectric testing of aerial units as required by ANSI / OSHA rules. Ensure accurate receiving, storage, and distribution of all line material. Performs related work as apparent or assigned. Supervision/Direction of Others Supervises: Warehouse Supervisor (1), Transportation Supervisor (1) and Utility Services Superintendents (2). Directs: All other cost center employees (51). Position Specifications Ideal candidate must have ten years’ of progressive experience working for an electric utility. A bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, or a related field is preferred. Certificate(s) or certification(s) in safety, project management, leadership, electrical systems, or related is desirable. Must have a strong electrical background and good working knowledge of electric power distribution work practices and procedures. Must accept multiple tasks and be adaptable to a variety of disciplines, requests, and complaints. Pursues personal development opportunities and is committed to staying technically current. Practices skills to develop competence and confidence. Actively participates in training and meetings. Must have foresight in guiding all departments in areas that make good business sense and serve the needs of their customers in the most cost-effective and efficient manner. May be required to work in stressful conditions. Must be able to handle customer complaints and/or employee issues with tact and diplomacy. Must be willing to work with various departments throughout DEA to meet both their material and transportation needs in a way that best serves the customer and DEA. Design and develop vehicle specifications that are “in-line” with industry standards and meet the needs of Dakota Electric employees. Required to possess a valid Minnesota driver’s license. Answers customers’ inquiries effectively by providing accurate, meaningful, and courteous responses to questions, in a timely manner. Supports teamwork by providing effective participation, cooperation, and communication. Must be innovative to creatively develop innovative solutions to problems. Seeks, recommends, develops, supports, and encourages new ideas. Working Conditions Regular and punctual attendance is an essential function of this position. Extra work hours are required when necessary or when workload is required. Attendance at out-of-town meetings and conferences beyond normal working hours is required.
