Description

Responsible for the oversight and management of all matters related to the clinical management of organs for transplantation. Leads the Organ Procurement Transplant Coordinator team in planning and executing programs which maximize the number and quality of organs recovered, in collaboration with the Sr. Director, Organ Procurement. Simultaneously, the Director, Organ Procurement plays an active role in fostering an organizational culture, which is based on collaboration, support, and constructive feedback.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

ADMINISTRATION
  1. Provides creative, organized and purposeful leadership necessary to direct development so that organizational objectives and overall department goals are successfully addressed.
  2. Manages assigned staff toward accomplishment of MTN's Mission, including employee selection, scheduling and job assignment; training and development; counseling and coaching; appraisal and recognition; and recommending salary, promotional and disciplinary actions in accordance with existing policies and procedures.
  3. Provides information and interacts with the MTN Leadership team and key outside contacts on clinical issues to maintain a high level of service and support.
  4. Works with the Sr. Director, Organ Procurement, to provide the executive staff with direction and input from a clinical perspective, in order to develop and implement solutions to MTN's goals.
  5. Collaborates with other key leaders (Hospital Services, Family Services, Satellites, Tissue) to ensure the mission of donation is maximized.
  6. Supports a team environment and integrated approaches within the procurement department and throughout MTN to achieve common goals.
  7. Promotes the Mission and goals of MTN by participating in associations and programs aimed at maximizing the organ recovery and transplantation process.
  8. Actively fosters collaborative relationships with key hospital, transplant, AOPO and other OPO staff members to ensure effective communication and workflow throughout the donation process.
  9. Participates as a member of the Critical Care Committee and the Transplantation Community of Practice Committee to advance organ procurement practices and maximize transplantation.
  10. Regularly monitors and identifies situations where processes need to be reviewed and revised, working collaboratively with the CCO, Sr. Director, Medical Director(s) and other members of Organ Procurement leadership.
  11. Charged with driving success and growth as it relates to the clinical management and care of the organ donor, in coordination with the Strategic Plan.
  12. In conjunction with the CCO and Sr. Director Organ Procurement, ensures MTN regulatory (CMS, OPTN, AOPO) needs are met as it relates to data accuracy and submission deadlines.
  13. Fosters relationships with donor hospital physicians responsible for the care of critically ill patients.
  14. Participates in research studies when appropriate, which enhance or improve the donation process and maximize the number of organs recovered and transplanted.
CLINICAL
  1. Directs the implementation of an effective organ procurement program with area hospitals to maximize the number and quality of organs recovered and transplanted.
  2. Ensures timely and effective development, revision, and execution of clinical protocols to continuously improve work practices and maximize the number of organs transplanted.
  3. Collaboratively, with the Sr. Director, Organ Procurement, oversees clinical activities and processes within the Donor Care and Surgical Recovery Unit.
  4. Works collaboratively with the OP Clinical Educator to assess training and education needs of assigned staff and ensures identified educational programs are carried out.
  5. Participates in administrative call to ensure efficient operation of donation activities.
  6. Ensures compliance with established quality assurance standards as well as local, state and federal regulations relating to organ procurement to demonstrate commitment to quality.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  1. Undergraduate degree in health sciences or equivalent required. RN licensure required. Advanced degree preferred. Previous organ procurement experience preferred. Five years of healthcare leadership experience required.
  2. Ability to obtain CPTC certification.
  3. Proven ability to lead a team, coordinate internal and external resources and achieve measurable results against goals.
  4. Strong organizational, problem analysis and decision-making skills. Demonstrated ability to motivate peers and achieve cooperation.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  6. Demonstrated strong leadership abilities, including experience in collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams.
  7. Microsoft office proficiency required.
  8. Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week and participate in 24-hour call. Required to work for extended periods of time with few breaks.
  9. Must maintain a valid driver's license in accordance with MTN motor vehicle policy. Must have reliable personal automobile transportation to be used with company reimbursement using IRS guidelines. Must be able to travel within the service area by ground or air.
  10. Ability to lift 50 pounds and transfer short distances.
  11. Possess manual dexterity sufficient to operate telephones, computers and surgical equipment.
  12. Ability to speak and communicate clearly in order to accurately convey information to donor families, hospital staff and transplant/procurement personnel in person or by phone.
  13. OSHA Category II Occasional exposure to bloodborne pathogens while performing assigned job duties. Bloodborne pathogens protection is required.
  14. Ability to hear at normal audio levels of speaking whether in person or over the phone.
  15. Vision correctable to 20/40 to read patient charts.
  16. Home internet and wireless phone access may be required.
