Your Role and Responsibilities Position Location: Radford, VA or Ft. Belvoir/VA 5 days onsite This position is for a Backup Engineer supporting the Army Edge Computing Capability (AEPC) project that ALTESS is fielding for the US Army in the Pacific theater. The AECC solution is a hyperconverged, multitenant private cloud hosting environment for hosting Army enterprise and tactical applications. AECC is utilizing the full suite of VMware products (ESXi, vSAN, NSX, vCloud Foundations, ARIA Automation, Tanzu) to implement a Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) across multiple global sites. ALTESS is utilizing Veritas Netbackup for providing enterprise backup capabilities and replication of backup data to remote sites to support mission needs. ALTESS provides value added common and managed services built on top of the VMware foundation, that hosted Army applications will require. ALTESS is a managed service provider (MSP) and hosting services provider for Army applications. ALTESS is a Product Director office under Program Executive Office Enterprise Information Systems (PEO EIS). Position Duties: Develop an enterprise level backup solution utilizing NetBackup for all sites within the entire AECC environment. Develop, deploy, and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for deployment and sustainment of the NetBackup enclave in the AECC. As new applications are hosted on the AEPC solution, utilize IaC for the configuration and administration of backups within the hosted customer enclaves. Provide daily administration of the NetBackup tools to include patching and upgrading. Monitor utilization of backup resources and notify the AECC lead when additional resources will be required. Harden the NetBackup products per commercial best practices and the required government cybersecurity controls. Troubleshooting and root cause analysis of any backup related issues. Develop and maintain system, infrastructure, and process documentation (system diagrams, network topology, software configurations, device configurations, standard operating procedures).

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

Required Certifications: Security+ or equivalent DoD 8570.01-M IA Tech Level II certification. Must have or obtain within 6 months of hire a computing environment certification as defined in DoD 8670.01-M, such as an automation or DevOps industry certification. This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security clearance or higher Required Skills: Senior level experience with the NetBackup suite of products in an enterprise environment. Experience with NetBackup in a multi-site deployment. Strong automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong troubleshooting skills across the entire technology stack – network, storage, server, and applications.

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

Working knowledge of DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) and the Information Assurance Vulnerability Management (IAVM) process.
