Summary of Position Posts daily transactions to each residents’ accounts using Interactive Health Network Long Term Care software and a check register program. Reviews calculations for accuracy and completeness. Receives and reviews residents’ requests to disburse payments from the residents’ funds to various vendors, family members, or to the resident themselves. Processes the requests by obtaining necessary signatures and ensuring payments are legitimate. Reviews balances daily, deducting any holds which have been placed on the account to ensure that the account will not be overdrawn. Prepares checks for residents after ensuring funds are available. Receives, reviews, and posts financial transactions relative to collections for Social Security, Veterans’ Pension, retirement, and family member payments. Writes receipts for monies received. Receives payment for services, posts payments to each resident’s account and to a ledger. This position is located at the Northeast Louisiana Veterans Home in Monroe, LA. The position will be filled by a probation appointment or promotion of a permanent state employee. College training will substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience. An Associate Degree in Accounting, Accounting Technology, or Business from an accredited college or university will substitute for two years of the required experience. Training in a vocational-technical school or military school in Accounting, Accounting Technology, or Business will substitute for up to one year of required experience on the basis of one month of training for one month of experience. NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university. Function of Work: To provide the full range of paraprofessional accounting services. Level of Work: Advanced. Supervision Received: Generally from higher-level fiscal or administrative position. Supervision Exercised: May supervise lower-level paraprofessional fiscal or administrative positions. Location of Work: May be used by all state agencies. Job Distinctions: Differs from Accounting Specialist 2 by responsibility for preparation of basic-level financial reports. Differs from professional accountants by assisting accounting professionals in the performance of various tasks within the accounting process. Extracts information and prepares portions of reports and/or schedules for higher-level accounting professionals in a budget unit. Responsible for posting and journalizing ledgers and preparing financial accounts reports such as those for complex grants in a large central fiscal office.
