Linn County Rural Electric Cooperative has an immediate opening for an Electrical Engineer at our Headquarters located in Marion, IA. Join our team to assist in the design of electrical system plans and construction specifications for our residential and commercial members, with a goal of providing present and future efficient and reliable electric service.
Primary responsibilities:
Plans and evaluates electric distribution plant additions, and system improvements, for voltage drop, power factor, line loss and transformer loss and contingency.
Plans and evaluates electric distribution system requirements to serve large commercial and industrial members to ensure that they are electrically and economically well designed, with emphasis on power quality.
Development of LCREC Work Plan and modifications to the Work Plan in conjunction with consulting engineers, Engineering Manager and the Operations Department.
Plans and evaluates electrical system studies and technical projects.
Monitors and evaluates data obtained from the OMS, GIS, SCADA and substation reports in order to pinpoint potential or real problems on the electrical distribution system.
Programs power quality monitoring devices placed on members facilities.
Develops processes and procedures to ensure the accuracy of data for the engineering system model.
Programs electronic controls in substation and line installations.
Assists the Engineering Manager in development of annual capital requests.
Assists members to resolve engineering complaints.

To be successful in this position, you will have:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (B.S.E.E.) with power distribution emphasis.
Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the state of Iowa, experience may be substituted for preferred registration.
Two to four years of experience in electric utility engineering. Experience should include system design and maintenance.
Must also possess the following knowledge and experience:
Must possess strong interpersonal skills, building constructive working relationships characterized by a high level of acceptance, cooperation, and mutual respect.
Must have good communication, customer service and employee relation skills.
Must be knowledgeable in the areas of line construction, maintenance of lines, substation construction and maintenance and other areas of electrical distribution and transmission.
Good working knowledge of windows, excel, word, access, and Milsoft is essential.
Experience with OMS, GIS and SCADA is preferred.
Must be able to plan and organize duties to meet deadlines.
NESC code training, sectionalizing training, SCADA and power quality training is desired.
Must be able to develop and analyze work plans and sectionalizing studies.
Must maintain a valid Iowa Driver’s License.
