Job Summary
We are seeking an established loss sensitive, Senior Property and Casualty Underwriter with an entrepreneurial spirit to grow a territory for us. This individual will develop and grow a profitable book of excess commercial property and casualty business by driving broker relationships, soliciting target accounts, and developing underwriting programs. This position is best suited for a production underwriter who enjoys customer and broker interaction and has outstanding communication skills and a strong market reputation.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Meet profitability, account retention, and written premium goals determined by the Director of Underwriting.
- Make independent underwriting decisions based on established underwriting guidelines and company policies to make consistent decisions.
- Develop and adjust policies to ensure they meet the needs of clients while protecting the Company's profitability.
- Ensure all underwriting activities comply with industry regulations and company policies.
- Maintain detailed records of policies underwritten and decisions made.
- Bachelor's Degree in insurance, finance, economics or a related field is strongly preferred.
- Three to five years of Commercial Property underwriting and marketing experience. Certified as a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) preferred.
- Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining solid relationships with all internal and external business partners
- High energy self-starter, who is resilient and has an entrepreneurial spirit. Goal-oriented and delivers positive outcomes.
- Other professional skills required include superior communication skills (written, verbal, presentation, listening), analyzing, problem solving and negotiation skills.
