In this position, the candidate will have an opportunity to design, build and deploy a Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) solution for wide ranging applications including grid storage, data centers, microgrids, and C&I applications. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the design, development, and integration of the BESS technology with demanding performance requirements.
About Alsym Energy: Alsym Energy has developed an innovative non-flammable, high-performance rechargeable battery chemistry thats free of lithium and cobalt and targeted for applications in stationary and grid storage. In this role you will be a key part of the customer qualification process, design-in opportunities, and other customer facing engagements. Investors include General Catalyst, Thrive Capital, Tata Ltd. and others.
Key Qualifications:
- BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in systems engineering in the energy storage industry, working on rack and container design and engineering for grid-storage and microgrid applications.
- Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical engineering principles, power systems, battery technologies, and energy storage systems.
- Proven ability to apply systems engineering principles and practices throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Experience with battery management systems (BMS) and power conversion systems (PCS).
- Experience with energy modeling and simulation software will be a plus.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Lead the design of racks and containers for BESS applications, including power electronics, thermal management, and control systems. Work with a cross-functional team to design the overall system architecture, including the interconnection of components, communication protocols, and control algorithms.
- Develop battery container layouts and coordinate with electrical, mechanical, and other engineering team members for complete packages for installation.
- Designs for different types of battery enclosure type solutions like cabinet type, container type, residential type storage solution. Identify and quantify energy conservation opportunities associated with Batteries / PCS / HVAC / FFS for different enclosure systems.
- Develop single-line and three-line diagrams with required electrical details for the battery system in accordance with local codes and requirements.
- Understand AC Coupled and DC coupled Battery Energy Storage systems.
- Use simulation tools to model system behavior under different design considerations as well as operating conditions, validating the design, and optimizing performance.
- Ensure adherence to industry standards and regulations related to energy storage systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge on latest standards on design, testing and validations like IEC 62933, UL9540A, NFPA 855, UL 1973, IEC 62619 etc.,
- Knowledge of utility grid interconnection standards, such as UL/IEEE standards
- Prepare technical documentation, including system specifications, design documents, test reports, and user manuals.
- Engage with customers to identify relevant usage applications such as power smoothening, ancillary services, peak shifting etc., and determination of battery profile, dispatch optimization for different applications.
- Identify, engage, and support partners to help with system integration and site development.
- Engage with and support customers in design and deployment strategies.
- Support Alsym Energys sales, marketing and business development activities.
