Career Development Specialist - Be the Catalyst for Change
The United States has long been a beacon of hope for those fleeing war and persecution, and as the world's largest resettlement country, it continues to uphold this legacy. For over fifty years, the Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants (CIRI) has been at the forefront of this mission, welcoming and resettling refugees with open arms. About the Role: As a Career Development Specialist (CDS) with CIRI, you will play a pivotal role in transforming lives by empowering refugees and other eligible populations to achieve their career dreams and become self-sufficient. You'll be the bridge between aspiration and achievement, guiding clients through specialized refugee employment programs to establish and reach their career goals. Collaborating closely with our dynamic Refugee Services Team, you'll help clients overcome obstacles, secure meaningful employment, and build sustainable, fulfilling careers. This is more than a job - it's a chance to change lives.

Your Key Responsibilities:
Career Planning & Case Management:
- Partner with clients to craft and execute personalized service and career development plans.
- Work with the Refugee Services Employment Outreach Specialist and Case Managers to match clients with the right job opportunities.
- Empower clients through the job application and interview process, fostering independence and confidence.
- Train clients in U.S. work culture, emphasizing job retention, professional attitude, and essential hard and soft skills.
- Develop and deliver impactful trainings, including job readiness, resume building, women's job club, computer literacy, financial literacy, and more.
- Collaborate with community partners to enhance job readiness and training opportunities.
- Identify scholarships and tuition reimbursement programs to further clients' career advancement.
- Champion English Language Learners (ELL) training, creating customized solutions to overcome learning barriers.
- Work closely with our Volunteer and ESL Coordinators to recruit volunteers for English tutoring.
- Administrative Management:
- Maintain accurate and timely client data, ensuring continuity and quality in service delivery.
- Develop expertise in key grant program requirements and contribute to the preparation of statistical reports.
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as social work, teaching, anthropology, psychology, international studies, or public health is preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience in a client-facing employment role or 1 year of experience working with vulnerable and underserved populations.
- A passion for community service and the ability to work directly with clients in the Bridgeport area.
- Outstanding organizational, communication, and prioritization skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and a proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and service providers.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience working with client databases.
- A reliable car, valid U.S. driver's license, and valid auto insurance.
- Flexibility to occasionally accommodate after-hours client needs.
