GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

Working under the general direction of the Senior Finance and Contract Manager, the Contract Specialist provides ongoing support for the Academic Medical Center's Non-Patient Revenue line of business within MGB. Typical tasks include: reviewing, drafting and managing the following agreements for the contract life cycle: professional service agreements, consulting agreements, transfer agreements, master services agreements (and related statements of work) and other agreements; draft modifications to standard template agreements; work with the Office of General Counsel (OGC) on unique and outside drafted agreements; initial assessment of non-standard contracts for risk, summarize legal documents, prepare reports, prepare correspondence and train business area personnel on the contracting process. Must apply a client-focused approach to work and have a flexible attitude regarding work assignments and new learning.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Exercise initiative, sound judgment and a knowledge of contracting policies and procedures
  • Apply the right combination of technical skill, good judgment, and common sense to resolve complex issues
  • Work independently to manage timing and action plans for completing department functions and preparing correspondence, reports and other documents ahead of need
  • Handle daily correspondence with clients, prepare reports, and maintain procedures
  • Gather data; perform analysis and articulate information related to, such things as: Terms, conditions and operational descriptions, signature execution, financial results, etc
  • Work constructively and in collaboration with: clients, division managers and personnel, and legal counsel
  • Analyze technical data and legal requirements associated with contract development and administration.
  • Plan, coordinate, set priorities and manage a large volume of time sensitive work affecting diverse interests and business areas.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive reports and written materials.

Contracts Administration

  • Prepare contract for execution on behalf of MGB entities in accordance with policy
  • Work with business areas as appropriate to develop contract "estimated value"
  • Follow-up with business areas to ensure timely completion of contract lifecycle
  • Manage the contract process with OGC support for guidance and terms clarification on unique and outside drafted agreements
  • Develop regular reports on contract performance, and inform internal customers, clients and management of activities and progress through regular written and verbal communication
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Business Law
  • 3 years of contract preparation experience preferred and additional finance experience helpful
  • Contract Development
  • Healthcare Experience preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite of products, especially MS Word, and PowerPoint
  • Adobe Acrobat experience preferred
