The Opportunity
Sambatek is currently seeking a Traffic Manager to grow a team to deliver traffic engineering projects. As a traffic manager, you are responsible for leading a project team in the implementation of traffic project development and managing scope, schedule, and budget; as well as quality, risk, and resources. In addition, this person will support our client expansion into working with various counties within Minnesota.
As our Traffic Manager, you will also be expected to champion business development by leading pursuits, proposals, and nurture and expand their network to create opportunities. This is a tremendous opportunity for the right person to help continue the expansion of our Transportation team.
Work Location: Hybrid, in-office as needed
The qualified candidate will:
- Lead pursuit efforts for transportation and traffic focused projects from clients including MnDOT, Counties, and municipalities
- Manage traffic projects in study, preliminary design, and plan development phase
- Lead internal teams and coordinate with external teams and stakeholders to deliver quality work to key clients, predominately at the state and county levels
- Represent Sambatek at meetings with clients, counties, cities, and other key stakeholders
- Participate in quality review processes, track, and mitigate risks, and coordinate resource allocation
- Participate in business development and lead pursuits and proposals
- Mentor support staff and provide input into strategic hires
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on traffic/transportation engineering
- PE in Civil Engineering, 10+ years of relevant experience (PTOE license preferred)
- Synchro/SimTraffic and/or VISSIM experience highly preferred
- Actively engage in local, statewide, and/or national professional organizations
- Driven to exceed expectations and win over clients and build strong relationships
- Ability to market skills and secure work both within our current client base and to expand into new clients
- Reputation and network, experience with MnDOT and MN counties
- Experience managing county or state traffic projects
- Provide input to leadership for the development of an annual business plan and budget. Ability and desire to effectively lead, mentor, train, coach, and develop team members
- Ability to direct diverse teams and empower individuals to succeed and grow
- Experience with traffic engineering software including: HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, Corsim, Rodel, and IHSDM
- Evaluation of traffic projects for freeways, arterial corridors, and intersections, including signals, roundabouts, and other innovative intersection control designs
- Experience in multi-modal projects including pedestrian, bicyclist, transit, and freight
- Preparation of traffic impact analyses (TIA), traffic operation modeling, traffic signal warrant studies, and intersection control evaluations (ICE)
- Signal timing, controller experience and traffic signal design experience preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to coordinate public engagement activities
- Possess critical thinking skills and independent engineering judgement
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local guidance and standards
- Prepare and negotiate contract documents
- Previous experience generating proposals, scopes, budgets, and schedules
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Work is primarily performed in an office environment
- Ability to occasionally move equipment/objects weighing up to 10 pounds
