Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean of Students and Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards, the Assistant Dean of Students for Student Conduct and Community Standards performs a variety of functions and responsibilities related to the delivery of student services with primary responsibility for the day-to-day implementation of the University Student Conduct system.

Essential Functions

  • Assists in the interpretation and administration of the student conduct process and the management of the Student Conduct and Community Standards Office.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day oversight of student conduct operation, student conduct investigation processes, and educational initiatives as directed.
  • Serves as a student conduct case administrator for cases resulting in sanctions up to suspension and expulsion and ensures student conduct cases are adjudicated and resolved per established procedures.
  • Supervises professional staff members within the Student Conduct and Community Standards office, including undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Provides support and resource referral to students, family members, advisors, and employees regarding the student conduct process.
  • Assists in the maintenance of student conduct records and the processing of student conduct records requests to internal and external agencies. Supports the completion of Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and Clery Act reporting processes.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of educational initiatives for student conduct case administrators, University hearing board members, advisors, and other constituents including students, faculty, and staff.
  • Supports the assessment efforts of student conduct processes and the Student Conduct and Community Standards Office operation.
  • Coordinates and facilitates the University Hearing Board process: recruits and trains board members scheduling and notifying all parties of hearings, ensuring proper documentation of all hearings, and serving as a procedural advisor for hearings.
  • Supports the Dean of Students Collaborative Leadership team in the development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures and represents the Student Conduct and Community Standards Office, Dean of Students Office, and Dean of Students Collaborative on University committees.
  • Works on special projects that may include policy review and development, runs reports and analyzes data, and develops and implements programs and initiatives to educate the campus community on the Code of Student Conduct. This may require the transportation of materials and supplies.
Other Functions
  • Understands responsibilities with respect to Title IX, Clery and other compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrates capacity, skill, and willingness to engage students and contribute to student success.
  • Understands responsibilities with respect to conflicts of interest and behaves in ways consistent both with law and with university policy.
  • Contributes toward creating a positive and respectful workplace. Uses access to sensitive and/or not yet public University-related information only in the performance of the responsibilities of position and exercises care to prevent unnecessary disclosure to others.
  • Performs related duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
  • Master's Degree in a related field including but not limited to Higher Education, Student Affairs, and Counseling Education.
  • Five (5) years' experience providing services to students at a residential college or university which includes significant and direct experience in adjudicating complex student conduct cases.
  • Experience working in medium to large residential campus.
  • Experience using a web-based conduct software platform to initiate, track, and record student conduct matters.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and web-based applications.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and in developing inclusive communities and work teams.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and delivering trainings, workshops, and presentations.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and presentation skills.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
  • Typical office environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds without restrictions.
Work Schedule
  • Typical work schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm.
  • Required to work some nights and weekends, including on-call coverage.
  • Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person with some flexibility for a remote or hybrid work schedule on occasion.
