POSITION SUMMARY:

The Consumer Lending Underwriter II is part of the Consumer Lending Originations Department and serves as a Loan Officer for Consumer Lending. This position is responsible for underwriting and evaluating consumer loan applications received from all delivery channels while providing fast, efficient loan turnaround to members, and departments that originate consumer loan applications including the branches and the Member Contact Center

The Consumer Lending Underwriter II must be proficient in lending regulations and Wescom's lending policies and procedures. The Consumer Lending Underwriter II must be knowledgeable of prime, mid-prime and sub-prime lending. Will assist the Consumer Lending Originations Manager and Supervisor with special projects which may include producing weekly and monthly key indicator reports

Acts as Department Quality Control Specialist who participates in the development and implementation of quality control measures to ensure Consumer Lending maintains high standards for quality control and efficiency of lending processes. Works the regular quality control reports, evaluates the results, and makes recommendations as necessary to the Manager

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

Reviews, underwrites and evaluates all consumer loan applications. Handles escalated calls in relation to credit decision appeals. Maintains a high level of service and support to the frontline. Promotes advocacy, and continually focuses on member service.

Works closely with the Consumer Lending Originations Manager and Supervisor to meet departmental goals.

Responsible for maintaining and achieving individual and team goals.

Actively and efficiently adheres to underwriting guidelines and turnaround standards as set by Consumer Lending Management.

Promotes a high level of member service and satisfaction among all Consumer lending personal and processes.

Assures Wescom's policies and procedures are followed.

Ensures regulatory compliance for all consumer lending products, policies and procedures.

Provides a second review of loan applications from a Consumer Lending Underwriter I and ensures exceptions are noted in every loan application.

Participates in testing of new loan and system software releases. Providing feedback assisting in implementation of new lending systems and modifications to existing systems.

Responsible for the completion of special projects or assignments as appointed by the Consumer Lending Originations Manager or Supervisor.

Responsible for developing and working quality control reports for the Consumer Lending products and functions. This includes underwriting, funding, file maintenance changes, loan performance, documentation and collateralization.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required to work independently with minimal supervision and has the ability to resolve issues with minimal external intervention.

Required to work on Saturday's on a rotational basis.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

High School graduate. Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Previous financial industry and customer service experience preferred.

Previous Loan Officer experience with a financial institution desirable.

Knowledge of Lending Regulations and previous Credit Union/Banking and Consumer Lending experience is essential.

Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent analytical skills; accuracy, consistency, and completeness is critical.

Demonstrated interpersonal skills, professional conduct and appearance.

Knowledge of Credit Union operations and ability to integrate and communicate critical information to members and other team members.

Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Must be proficient in technology applications including the Credit Union's operating system and specialized software required for performance of position.

Proficiency in Temenos, Symitar and Lenders Protection systems preferred

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs

Expert in analyzing financial statements and/or income tax returns.
