Tool and Die Technician

ROLE:

Manufacture and repair tooling and die components using knowledge of machining, grinding, measurement, drawing interpretation and understanding of engineering requirements. Ensure all safety requirements are met, and work close with co-workers to encourage continuous improvements and lean practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Build and maintain tooling and fixtures to support production operations

• Machine tooling components based on drawings or reproducing from existing component

• Inspecting tool condition, function, wear allowances, using micrometer, caliper and other precision measuring instruments

• Interpreting engineering drawings and specifications to plan, manufacture, and inspect

• Developing guides and other work aids to hold and align parts

• Determining required cutting tools and machining method

• Guiding production employees in proper use of dies

• Applying knowledge of geometry and machining techniques

• Set example for quality and productivity in support of production goals

• Works independently with minimal instruction and supervision

• Turn, mill, drill, shape, and grind machine parts to specifications

• Measure, examine, and test completed products for defects

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• High school education or equivalent work experience

• Associates Degree in a related field

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Two (2) years minimum experience in conjunction with education at a technical school or

• Four (4) years applicable experience

REQUIRED OUTSIDE TRAINING/CERTIFICATIONS:

N/A

CRITICAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Die troubleshooting and repair skills

• Must have basic machining hand tools and skills

• Working knowledge of quality principles and practices

• Strong attention to detail and ability to resolve problems quickly

• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

• Working knowledge of safety principles and practices

• Adherence to all safety protocols and utilization of all equipment in a safe manner

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where limited standardization exists

REQUIRED INTERNAL TRAINING:

• New Hire Orientation/On-boarding Training
