THE ROLE:

As the Director of Development at Hartbeat, you will play a crucial role in creating and overseeing unscripted programming from concept to delivery. Reporting to the VP of Unscripted, you will be responsible for generating new ideas and managing the development process from start to finish. You will be expected to be a highly motivated self-starter, a strong researcher and writer with a deep knowledge of pop culture and a collaborative team player.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Concept Generation and Development

Originate, identify, and develop new unscripted concepts and projects across various genres and formats for broadcast, linear, and streaming outlets. Collaborate in team brainstorm meetings, submit show ideas, and conduct research. Take multiple ideas from concept to pitch, preparing written pitch materials, including copy and design of pitch decks. Produce development sizzles and casting tapes.

Project Management

Track pitches and status updates on the development slate, maintain the development pipeline and communicate updates effectively. Oversee development shoots and casting interviews, traveling on location to support field production as needed. Help oversee prep, staffing, production, and post of paid development. Create creative show bibles. Ensure projects are completed on time. Work alongside production to ensure projects stay within budget.

Collaboration and Communication

Participate in Zoom meetings with talent and conduct interviews. Build and maintain strong relationships with networks, talent, and production partners. Engage in outreach to individuals, entities, agencies, and celebrity representatives to explore ideas.

Industry Knowledge and Innovation

Stay up-to-date with industry trends and developments to inform the development process. Think creatively and outside the box to develop innovative concepts and projects.

Professionalism and Confidentiality

Represent the company in various situations, including interactions with high-profile talent, producers, representatives, and financiers. Handle sensitive and confidential information with the utmost integrity and discretion. Proactively address challenges and unforeseen obstacles.

Exercise sound critical thinking and judgment while managing competing and demanding priorities. Follow through on tasks with minimal additional direction, being resourceful and self-driven.

Compensation

Actual compensation within the pay range will be decided based on factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior relevant experience, and work location. In addition to the base salary, the compensation package for this role also includes a discretionary bonus, based on individual and company performance.
