Organization The NC United Methodist Camp & Retreat Ministries, Inc. (the Organization) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) tax exempt corporation that oversees the operations of three camp and retreat centers: Chestnut Ridge in Efland, NC, Don Lee in Arapahoe, NC and Rockfish in Parkton, NC. The Organization is related by faith to the United Methodist Church. The Organizations mission is to offer a variety of programs that emphasize Christian formation through activities that include summer camp, retreats, environmental education, after school programing, and adult ministries. Position The Finance Director reports to the Executive Director (ED) and plays a critical role in partnering with the senior leadership team in strategic decision making and operations. The successful candidate will be a hands-on and participative manager who will lead and develop a small internal team to provide support in the following areas: finance & accounting, business planning and budgeting, human resources and administration. This role is responsible for ensuring operational efficiency, robust compliance, and prudent asset management for the organization. Core Responsibilities Financial Management Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements; oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors; assess any changes necessary to improve efficiencies, internal controls and operating procedures Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the ED; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership team abreast of the organizations financial status Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting Oversee the day-to-day administration and control of the accounting and treasury functions to safeguard assets and ensure financial transactions are processed timely, accurately, and in compliance with GAAP as well as local, state, federal, and not-for-profit regulations, guidelines, and laws Effectively communicate and present critical financial matters to the board of directors Human Resources and Administration Serve as a resource to the ED and senior leadership for human resource management, helping to ensure consistency across the organization and legal/regulatory compliance Work with ED to budget and design employee benefit programs; oversee employee benefits management Assist ED in managing contracts and key relationships with major IT, HR and insurance vendors Work with the ED to secure adequate insurance coverage to minimize risk in a fiscally responsible manner; responsible for claims administration and annual workers compensation audit Qualifications Education & Certification Minimum of a Bachelors degree in accounting, business or finance CPA license required Experience At least 7-10 years of overall professional experience; ideally 6 years of broad financial and operations management experience Has held final responsibility for the quality and content of all financial data, reporting and audit coordination for either a division or significant program area, and has preferably overseen a human resources function previously The ideal candidate will possess Ability to translate financial concepts to and to effectively collaborate with programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds Technological savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations/migrations and managing relationships with software vendors; knowledge of accounting, reporting and payroll software A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision making Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders Multi-tasking ability to wear many hats in a fast-paced environment Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of United Methodist Camp & Retreat Ministries, Inc.
