Job Summary: The Process Safety Engineer is a key role within the organization who is responsible for providing support to plant operations through continuous development and improvements of the fourteen (14) elements of Process Safety Management. Furthermore, this role serves as a resource for technical staff in the application of the company’s Loss Prevention Standards, Responsible Care Standards, and Process Safety procedures and Risk Management. The ideal candidate will be a PSM subject matter expert, with direct PHA (Process hazard analysis)/LOPA facilitation experience, who thrives in a collaborative, open, team environment and is driven by the opportunity to make an impact. The Process Safety Engineer work description also entails reviewing Risk Assessment Screenings for Management of Change (MOC) and organizing and delivering effective and efficient Process Safety Trainings as needed for stewardship of processes. This role is also involved in assisting Incident Investigation teams and classifying process safety incidents per API RP 754. Job Duties and Responsibilities: Accountable to schedule, coordinate, document, and lead PHA/LOPA revalidations maintaining the 5-year window required for revalidation of each study. Lead and/or coordinate completion of project PHAs. Review prior PHA/LOPA studies for weaknesses and opportunities. Provide support and guidance to operations and engineering teams in implementing sustainable process safety programs and culture through knowledge of process safety practices, PSM/RMP, safety & engineering standards, and practical implementation methods. Ability to recognize hazards associated with chemical processes and equipment Lead/facilitate incident investigations. Classify incidents per API RP 754 Continually drive effectiveness of established Management of Change and Pre-Startup Safety Review processes as well as conduct periodic audits to assess performance Track and maintain corrective actions from site PHAs, incident investigations, compliance audits, insurance audits, site safety assessments and other PSM/H&S activities. Review and verify appropriate closure for corrective action items. EHSS Audit Schedule Administration – provide site audit schedule reminders, schedule auditors, manage audit reports and action lists – participate on audits as a qualified Process Safety representative. Ability to read and understand federal, state, and local requirements associated with equipment design and integrity. Stays current with emerging issues related to Process Safety Management. Develop and implement key performance indicators to track the progress and health of facility PSM programs, this includes leading and lagging indicators. Report monthly key performance indicators for continued progress in timely corrective action closure. Champion a culture of Process Safety excellence at the company Coordinate and participate in identifying and evaluating HSE hazards/risks and recommend measures to reduce them.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (Chemical or Mechanical Engineering) with Chemical or Refinery/Petrochemical Industry experience (5 years EHSS experience, including proved Process Safety knowledge) Practical experience in use of PHA software (PHA Works, PHA Pro, etc.) 7+ years PHA facilitation experience, including experience leading chemical/petrochemical facility PHA and LOPA studies Must understand Level of Protection Analysis (LOPA), including but not limited to Safety Instrumented Systems, Independent Protection Layers, Instrumented Safety Function, Safety Integrity Level, and Risk Reduction Factors Must have solid understanding of process safety elements, practical knowledge leading hazard assessments and exposure to industry API Codes and Standards Familiar with Management of Change (MOC), Risk Management, and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) risk assessments Must understand the concept of Inherently Safer Design Must understand facility siting, including siting of temporary buildings and structures Collaborative skills: The job of a Process Safety Engineer requires that they work with cross-functional teams, so it is vital that they can work with people with various backgrounds Communication skills: It is essential that applicants have effective verbal and written communication skills to excel in this position. It is necessary for influencing, engaging, and facilitating workgroups, as well as in managing interfaces with engineering consultants, construction, operations, and others Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel Preferred Qualifications: Prior EHSS auditing experience Operations experience PHA leader experience Organizational skills and excellent verbal and communication skills Ability to perform multiple functions and tasks simultaneous
