Job Summary

Under the administrative supervision of the Assistant Director, the Retail Associate operates a cash register, orders and receives new merchandise and merchandise transfers, conducts buy back transactions and maintains the inventory control system records for the Lakeshore Bookstore. The Retail Assistant also promotes the college and the bookstore to the community with ability to work at other bookstore locations as necessary.

Required Qualification(s)

+ High school diploma or equivalent.

+ Ability to lead cashiers in job duties.

+ Cash handling and retail experience.

+ Friendly and outgoing with customer service experience.

+ Ability to move up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.

+ Ability to work at our Grayslake or Vernon Hills location.

+ Ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Desired Qualification(s)

+ Retail supervisory experience.

+ Flexibility is a plus.

+ Experience with an inventory control system.

+ Bilingual English and Spanish.

Special Instructions Summary

This position must be fluid to changes that may be encountered, including flexibility with work hours. Please note that this position must be able to provide coverage for the bookstores on the Grayslake and Southlake campuses when needed. The individual that is hired will need reliable transportation to be able to travel to other campuses.

Pay Rate $15.59/hr

Monday-Friday 8am-1pm

With flexibility to cover a shift outside of these hours when applicable.

Summary of Essential Functions

Student/Customer Service 60%

+ Operates a cash register, ringing up cash, check, credit card, and financial aid sales.

+ Accurately receives and checks-in merchandise and merchandise transfers.

+ Performs customer returns, re-stocking returned merchandise as needed.

+ Provides excellent customer service by answering questions for students, faculty, and staff.

+ Answers phone, retrieves voice mail messages, and updates bookstore phone message as needed

+ Coverage on Saturdays at the beginning of the semester

Data Entry/Records Coordination 20%

+ Opens/closes bookstore. Prepares bank deposits and daily sales paperwork.

+ Enters data required for financial aid, sorts and organizes financial aid paperwork, compiles and sends to Grayslake bookstore.

+ Works with bookstore staff to complete inventory stock counts, semester textbook inventories, and the end of the fiscal year inventory.

+ Conducts department charge transactions.

+ Prices and stocks general merchandise; creates merchandise displays as needed

Other 20%

+ Keeps bookstore stocked by placing merchandise requests from the Grayslake or Southlake locations or ordering directly through vendors for authorized merchandise.

+ Promotes end of the semester buyback, conducts textbook buyback transactions and reconciles books bought previous day.

+ Positively promotes the Lakeshore bookstore throughout all CLC campus locations and the community working to increase bookstore sales.

+ Travels to other campus bookstore sites to cover shifts as required.

+ Keeps the sales floor and student lounge area clean and neat while monitoring customers needs.
