Position Overview

The Retail Assistant plays a crucial role in the operations of the bookstore, working under the guidance of the Assistant Director. This position is responsible for managing cash transactions, receiving and organizing new inventory, and ensuring accurate records within the inventory control system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate the cash register, processing various forms of payment including cash, checks, and credit cards.
  • Receive and verify incoming merchandise and manage transfers effectively.
  • Assist customers with returns and provide exceptional service by addressing inquiries from students, faculty, and staff.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the sales floor and customer areas.
  • Collaborate with team members to conduct regular inventory checks and ensure stock levels are maintained.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in retail or cash handling preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on customer service.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Flexibility to work at multiple locations as needed.

Additional Information

This position requires adaptability to changing circumstances, including varying work hours. Reliable transportation is necessary for travel between different bookstore locations.
