**Director, Retail Store Operations**
at Design Within Reach Stamford, CT The Director, Retail Operations is responsible for developing a long-term strategy to enhance the operational procedures and performance at the store while managing the day to day execution of operations initiatives and share best practices within the network. In partnership with the stores' leadership team, the role is responsible for liaising with domestic and international groups and representing retail needs on projects as well as identifying and implementing process improvements.
Collaboration, communication, and positive mindset are key competencies for this role, as all functions and departments within the company partner with retail operations on day to day processes and new initiatives.
**What youll do:**
**Standardize Operating Procedures/Business Process Improvements**
* Develop short and long-term strategies to enable stores to perform at maximum efficiency
* Identify opportunities for standardizing current and new procedures to maximize resources
* Execute, instruct and communicate to all stores on special projects as it relates to new processes and procedural changes for retail (i.e. Policy, Distribution, Customer Service, etc.)
* Identify ways to streamline operations and propose sustainable changes; partner with corporate counterparts to establish best practices (i.e. Merchandising, Finance, Visual, etc.)
* Ensure strategy can be transported to international locations
* Partner with IT and IS for the development and roll out of technology enhancements enabling greater efficiency and elevating the experience for the customer and sales associate
* Create a culture allowing the organization to quickly adapt to changes while ensuring client interaction/satisfaction is paramount
**New Store Openings**
* Lead and manage a team of Project Managers to develop and ensure consistency and best practices across all HM Retail store openings
* Interface regularly with the Development Team on schedules for all new store openings
* Propose and define new business solutions (new retail tools, activities, practices and processes) for optimal store openings and ease of replication
* Responsible for the New Store Opening scorecard, including reporting, analysis, and distribution
* Develop and maintain new store opening procedures and playbooks for use by Company and Store Operations
* Reinforce consistency in store openings and work with cross-functional teams on continuous improvement initiatives
* Work with cross-functional teams to coordinate training around equipment, systems and overall store operations pre and post opening
**Store Support**
* Support retail stores daily through troubleshooting, system compliance, overall operations support & supply ordering
* Partner with IT and retail stores to manage updates to and issues related to the retail systems such as POS, clienteling, and traffic application; ensure that all IT network systems enhancements are implemented and communicated consistently across all store in the market
* Assist in trouble shooting all heightened customer service issues; identify trends with issues reported and suggest enhancements where needed
* Identify reporting needs for the stores; work with appropriate data owners to create or modify reporting for retail management to enhance monitoring of key sales and related activities
* Support new store/hire training by providing instruction on in store operational procedures and processes via a multi-brand Store Playbook
* Partner with retail management on addressing operational questions or concerns on policy/procedures
* Understand current and future brand direction and develop retail operations strategies and solutions that align to and support it
* Proactively integrate the Corporate and Field teams in the development and execution of retail operations strategies and solutions; ensure the needs of all stakeholders are considered
* Effectively attract, retain and develop a unified team that delivers exceptional service to internal customers and positively impacts business results
* Drive innovation through retail to ensure a user friendly experience for stores
* Ensure delivery of effective communications and training for Field and Corporate initiatives
* Oversee execution of physical inventory process for all retail stores
* 10-12 years retail operations experience
* 8 years Management experience
* Demonstrated excellent coaching, mentoring, and people development skills
* Highly collaborative and enjoys working with all types of teams
* Four-year college degree, Concentration in Business
* Both process oriented, flexible & has demonstrated ability to maintain composure in all situations
* Thrives in a changing, fast-paced environment
* Proven track record in store operations with managing profitability and operations efficiencies
* Experience working with Senior Retail leadership in a strategic context
* Ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders
* Ability to build and maintain partnerships
* Proven ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, changing environment
* Ability to work independently and with little guidance
* Proficiency Microsoft Office Suite and Point of Sale (POS)
* Strong oral and written communication skills
* Strong organizational skills
* Flexibility to work non-traditional hours, days, nights, weekends and holidays
