About the role

Chica Project seeks a Finance Fellow who will support the finance team in the preparation of financial reports, financial planning, financial budgeting, and management of the accounting operations. The successful candidate will want to grow in the areas of nonprofit financial management, reconciliation of accounts, and audit compliance. This fellowship opportunity is for the 2024-2025 academic year, starting on September 9, 2024 and ending late June 27, 2025. This is a paid opportunity.
About You

Chica Project is looking for someone who is mission-driven, with a positive attitude to play a critical role in ensuring that the day-to-day functioning of Chica Project's financial operations are being supported effectively and efficiently. This is a valuable opportunity for fellows to gain experience in the nonprofit sector, develop finance management, operations, and reporting skills, and join a powerful network of women in Massachusetts and beyond. Further qualifications include:
  • Passionate about youth development, social justice, and community building
  • Experience or academic study in accounting, finance, nonprofit, or related fields.
  • Experience working with communities of color and grassroots organizations, with an understanding of systemic oppression
  • Interest in the implementation of financial management procedures
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual: Proficiency or fluency in Spanish is preferred, but not required
  • Strong organization skills and ability to take initiative
  • Love of continuous learning
Requirement:
  • Able to work 10-15 hours per week.
The position will be mainly responsible for the following areas, but duties can expand beyond central responsibilities of:
  • Collaborate with staff to create, strengthen, and maintain current financial operations from receipt tracking to audit preparation
  • Manage data entry (accounts payable and accounts receivable)
  • Assist in modification of necessary documents for financial management (procedures manual, yearly budget, reporting documents etc.)
  • Work closely with various teams for financial reporting, organization budget creation, and monthly budget reports.
  • Attend finance meetings and monthly finance committee meetings
  • Participate in financial planning and assessments
Learning Objectives:
  • Understand nonprofit financial procedures and budget creation processes
  • Develop and maintain financial reporting documents and goals setting related to personal financial skills
