Position: Development Manager

DAWS is currently seeking a Development Manager to work under the

Director of Operations (DO), and in close coordination with our Marketing

Manager, other Staff, Volunteers and related Committees (e.g., Gala Committee). Ideal candidates will have at least three (3) years of Development experience in a non-profit organization; excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; self-starting strengths to work effectively in both remote and environments; and high digital proficiency with relevant Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software (e.g., Donor Perfect) and Event/Auction Software (e.g., GiveSmart).

The Danbury Animal Welfare Society (DAWS) is a leading non-profit animal welfare organization entering its 50th year of dedication to improving animals' lives. DAWS places over 900 animals annually in permanent homes while providing pet owners affordable veterinary care through its in-house clinic. Additionally, the organization is committed to raising public awareness of pressing issues related to companion animal welfare, such as animal overpopulation.

Development at DAWS

DAWS is a 501c(3) organization headquartered in Bethel, Connecticut that heavily relies on contributed income to sustain its operating budget of $1 million annually. Our development objectives include 1) increasing unrestricted and restricted gifts 2) growing existing and net new revenue streams (e.g., successful fundraising events, grant awards) 3) stewarding donor, sponsor and other strategic relationships throughout fundraising & donor cultivation lifecycles and 4) enhancing the organizations visibility locally, regionally and nationally.

Responsibilities

General

In partnership with the Director of Operations (DO) and Marketing and Communications Manager, the Development Manager is responsible for developing, managing, and executing the overall development strategy of fundraising, special events, and donor engagement.

Donor Management

Manage Donor Perfect CRM database, controlling

for data quality and relevancy (e.g., input contributions, maintain donor profiles, input contact notes, properly flag donors and pull data reports upon request).

Conduct research and analysis on donor segments, including planned and major gift donors.

Steward low-mid range portfolio of target donors and grantors and support DO with mid-high range portfolio

by identifying individual and organizational targets.

Run processing and donor acknowledgment/recognition for all giving (annual tax acknowledgements per IRS requirements).

Assist DO with strategy for both planned acknowledgment/recognition activities.

Support building of partnerships with local business owners, chamber of commerce(s), etc.

Collaboration

Collaborate closely with the Marketing Manager, particularly in:

  • coordinating and planning events
  • ensuring messaging follows brand & strategy
  • development and implementation of mail, social media, online, and event based campaigns

Fundraising and Special Events

Plan and manage fundraising events (e.g., annual gala, annual golf event, online fundraising events). Lead event planning activities under the guidance of ED/DO (e.g., manage sponsor mailings, event day logistics, manage third-party vendors/contractors, track and manage event RSVPs).

Manage GiveSmart Event/Auction Software, controlling for data quality and relevancy.

Support third-party fundraising opportunities such as donation drives with community, school, and civic groups.

Identify and solicit sponsors for events, financial and in-kind

Adhere to event budgets

Manage the direct mail process for annual appeal, legacy mailings, targeted adopter mailings, special events, etc.

Support growth of Legacy Society with Planned Giving under the guidance of DO.

Research and apply for grants under the guidance of DO; maintain a grants calendar/schedule.

Flexibility in Schedule required, occasional evenings and weekends around annual events.
