Who We Are:

Farmer, Forester, Chef is a day camp located at historic Powisset Farm in Dover, MA. Powisset Farm is a 109-acre working CSA vegetable farm with a vibrant learning garden, barnyard animals, culinary program for all ages, scenic trails, engaging education programs, and deep history that make this a special place to visit and work.

At summer camp, we have an interdisciplinary, hands-on approach to learning in the fields and forests, the children's gardens, the barnyard, and the teaching kitchen. Our unique camp connects children to the land and the natural systems that support us all, while spending time outdoors, exploring, making friends, and having fun.

Essential Functions:
  • Hire and train camp staff
  • Daily supervision and safe keeping of campers
  • Management and supervision of 8 summer Camp Educators (Counselors), and the camp Culinary Instructor and Culinary Assistant
  • Create the general schedule of activities for 46 campers per week
  • Support the weekly activity modules created and implemented by Camp Educators; provide resources and feedback to empower Camp Educators to create thoughtful educational and fun activities focused on environmental, agricultural and culinary education
  • Lead weekly camp staff meetings for Camp Educators
  • Regular check-in with portfolio director to monitor progress and identify issues
  • Manage of photo and video content. Partner with central teams to market and promote camp
  • Complete administrative duties including paperwork organization, parent communication, and preparing for 8 weeks of camp sessions.
  • Execute pre- and post-season tasks including planning, camp inspection, and wrap-up
  • Utilize CampBrain software to manage registration and special camper accommodations
  • Manage medical emergencies and behavioral concerns
  • Model inclusive, professional behavior to be emulated by all camp staff
  • Team interface with other property professionals including portfolio director, culinary manager, engagement manager, stewardship and agriculture staff
  • Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation
What We Need From You:

Availability:
  • 20 hours per week January 15,2023 - May 1, 2023.
  • 30 hours per week May 1, 2023 - June 15, 2023
  • 40 hours per week June 17 - August 23
Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Earned or pursuing, a bachelor's degree in environmental education, education, child psychology, environmental science/studies, agriculture, ecology, or other relevant course of study strongly desired.
  • A minimum of one to three years of experience working as a camp counselor, classroom teacher, informal educator, and/or childcare provider with children ages 6-11.
  • Highly computer literate, including working with spreadsheets and database management software on registration, scheduling, and billing.
  • Highly organized with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience supervising a team of individuals and fostering a supportive environment for growth and collaboration.
  • Motivated self-starter, with ability to take initiative and accomplish necessary tasks in a timely manner with great independence, as well as to effectively work as part of a group.
  • Willingness to bring passion and enthusiasm to working with young people.
  • High regard for teamwork, collegiality, customer service and camper experience
  • An unflappable demeanor and a terrific sense of humor
  • A great attitude about working outdoors in all weather conditions
Additional Requirements:
  • Minimum age is 21 years old
  • MUST hold a valid driver's license, as well as a satisfactory driving record as outlined in The Trustees driving policy.
  • Satisfactory background check (CORI, SORI)
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds
  • Certifications, provided if needed:
  • ACA Camp Director certification
  • Serve Safe and Allergen certified
  • CPR and Basic First Aid certifications
