As part of the electrical engineering and embedded systems team at First Mode, you will support the development of the electric drivetrains used in First Modes electric vehicles and other applications. You will be both a design and systems engineer, supporting modeling and analysis of drivetrain options in trade studies, as well as interfacing and integrating electric motors and inverters into our vehicles. You will assist in the software interface and control law development of our inverters and drive-by-wire systems, and work closely with your mechanical colleagues in selecting gear ratios and meeting challenging packaging requirements. A self-starting attitude and desire to learn everything about the system under design from all disciplines and team members is required. Position Responsibilities *

Own the electrical implementation and design of electric drivetrain systems

selecting motors and inverters, developing control schemes and supporting calibration development *

Support detailed implementation of the drivetrain through managing electrical interfaces (e.g, harnessing, communications busses, etc.), control interfaces (e.g., Simulink), and mechanical interfaces (e.g., thermal, packaging) *

Support design, development, and test of electric vehicle drivetrains and other components for First Mode customers Required Qualifications *

Working knowledge in the design and implementation of high power (>100 kW) electrical motor systems *

Experience with one or more common electrical vehicle topologies (pure EV, series-hybrid, parallel-hybrid, etc.) *

Proficiency in common electrical engineering design tools (e.g., SPICE, Altium Designer, MATLAB) Desired Qualifications *

Strong grasp of fundamentals and applications of electrical machines / motors of various types (e.g., AC induction, permanent magnet AC, switched reluctance) *

Strong understanding of an electrical machine as an electro-mechanical device and how it translates electrical power to mechanical power *

Hands-on experience in the design, development and test of electric vehicle drivetrain components such as AC induction motors and high-power inverters *

Experience in developing and managing calibrations / throttle maps for drive-by-wire systems *

Experience working on / with battery / fuel-cell electric vehicle drivetrains *

Experience in the modeling and simulation of electric hybrid vehicles (e.g. Simulink) *

Programming experience in at least one scripting language (e.g., Python) *

Experience through a complete product lifecycle (requirements, design, build, test, manufacturing) *

Ability to write and speak clearly about technical subject matter (e.g., technical specification development, wiki documentation) Location *
