SUMMARY PAY WILL DEPEND ON QUALIFICATIONS Open until filled- The Chief Development Officer is a relationship-oriented professional that is responsible for leading, developing and implementing strategies for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individuals, organizations, private foundations, and businesses/corporations in leadership gift fundraising activities of the Gaston College Foundation. This position works collaboratively with the President, Presidents Cabinet, Board of Trustees, and Foundation Board in support of the College's mission. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Develop an annual and ongoing fundraising plan and budget to maintain and support the priorities of the Gaston College Foundation and Gaston College, including major gifts, events, and athletic fundraising. Supervise, train, motivate, and evaluate assigned staff; establish and monitor employee performance objectives; conduct employee performance reviews; provide or coordinate staff training. Manage a portfolio of prospective and current donors who have the capacity to give $100,000 major gifts, planned gifts, and $25,000 annual gifts. Create, develop and lead signature events with specific objectives to obtain sponsorships to support the events. Identify private and public donors and prospects, and build and maintain profitable, long-term fundraising relationships. Coordinate the establishment of endowments, annual scholarships, planned gifts, grants, and other contributions according to the Foundation and College Gift Acceptance Policy. Coordinate with the Foundation staff to ensure timely, accurate, and thorough gift receiving, reporting, and acknowledgement operations. Maintain accurate and timely records/contact reports of all interactions with donors utilizing Raiser's Edge. Support the development and production of communication tools, proposals, and reports; provide support with scheduling and general correspondence. Develop and maintain programs and activities of the Foundation through proactive marketing and public relations initiatives. Monitor the program, track and document all necessary activities, and complete all reporting requirements. Provide strategic communications support to the President as it relates to fundraising and related activities. Maintain positive relationships and communications with other Foundation and College colleagues to maximize donor relationships and philanthropy giving. Maintain professional connections and knowledge of the fundraising field through memberships and conferences. As assigned, may oversee and implement Foundation grant activity, including preparing proposals, reports, and correspondence. Perform other duties as assigned. MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited institution required. Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential preferred. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS Minimum of five (5) years of proven major gifts fundraising experience. Supervisory/leadership experience required. Excellent knowledge of major gift fundraising and ethical practices. Strong critical/analytical thinking and decision-making skills required. Exceptional customer service skills and ability to build effective working relationships required. Ability to handle confidential information with sensitivity. Excellent time management and communication skills required. Ability to work with a high degree of independence and self-motivation. Familiarity with the business, nonprofit, and philanthropic community in the region preferred. Knowledge of 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organizations preferred. Knowledge of Blackbaud Raiser's Edge software preferred. Broad knowledge of computer applications required. Physical Requirements Generally, works in a traditional climate-controlled office environment. Ability to sit for extended periods, with some walking, standing, and bending required. Ability to lift and maneuver items weighing up to 25 pounds. Work environment can be stressful at times. Position requires weekend and/or evening hours.
