Summary

This position provides technical expertise by facilitating patient transfers and consultations, managing assignment the Emergency Department, admissions to Hospital Medicine service and by providing support to all care team members to facilitate timely access to Maine Medical Center. This is the second level on a three-level career path.

This position serves a pivotal role within the hospital. Responsible for triaging and dispatching teams that respond to emergencies within the hospital. Receives reports and documents from patients coming from other healthcare facilities to the Emergency Department. This position also supports hospitals within the southern Maine region with diversion announcements and coordinating responses to mass casualty or other disaster incidents and is responsible for coordinating the initial phase of the hospital's disaster plan.

This position is highly dependent on multiple communication methods including radios, phones, paging systems and requires extensive documentation.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

    1. Education: High school education preferred.
    2. License/Certifications: EMS Certification (does not have to be current) or 5 years' healthcare experience that provides familiarity with healthcare terminology, roles, and hospital processes
    3. Experience: See "License/Certifications"
    4. Excellent interpersonal skills.
    5. Outstanding customer service skills.
    6. Effective communication and documentation skills.
    7. Proficient with medical terminology.
    8. Moderate understanding of hospital operations.
    9. Able to identify problems, prioritize work, make decisions and use sound judgment.
    10. Ability to maintain a compassionate attitude in a highly stressful environment.
    11. Proficiency in Epic Grand Central.
    12. Demonstrated self-directed learner.
    13. Demonstrates active engagement within the department.
