Job Summary: The Junior Database Administrator will assist in the design, implementation, maintenance, and performance of database systems. Working under the guidance of senior DBAs, the Junior DBA will be responsible for ensuring the security, integrity, and availability of databases within the organization.
Responsibilities:
Database Maintenance:
- Assist in database installation, configuration, and upgrading.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as backups, restores, and patch installations.
- Monitor and optimize database performance.
- Implement and maintain database security protocols.
- Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and company policies.
- Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution:
- Investigate and resolve database-related incidents and problems.
- Collaborate with the IT support team to troubleshoot and resolve issues affecting database systems.
- Contribute to the design and development of database schemas and structures.
- Assist in the creation and modification of database objects.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of database configurations, processes, and procedures.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, system administrators, and network engineers, to ensure seamless integration and performance of database systems.
- Implement and maintain database monitoring tools.
- Generate and analyze performance reports for proactive issue resolution.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of relational database management systems (RDBMS).
- Familiarity with database design, normalization, and optimization.
- Knowledge of SQL and database querying languages.
- Basic understanding of database security concepts.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong communication skills.
- Willingness to work varying shift hours and weekends, including participation in on-call support activities.
- Experience with specific database platforms (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL).
- Familiarity with cloud-based databases (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database).
- Knowledge of database performance tuning and optimization techniques.
- Understanding of backup and recovery processes.
