Overview:

AARPs Legal Counsel for the Elderly champions the dignity and rights of vulnerable Washington, D.C. seniors 60-plus, providing free legal and social work services to those in need empowering, defending, protecting, and helping thousands of clients each year in many areas of civil law.

The Social Work Analyst provides direct and indirect social services. Serves as an advocate for clients, providing access to services such as, financial assistance, legal aid, and housing designed to improve the comfort and care of the client. Provides social work consultation, information, referrals, and materials to the community. Engages in outreach and maintains relationships with the community. Makes referrals for seniors in need of legal assistance.

Responsibilities:
  • Conducts psycho-social assessments, including capacity assessments, and develops client-centered care plans.
  • Provides direct services to, and advocacy for, clients. Assists clients to obtain access to appropriate services such as financial assistance, legal aid, health supports, and housing (designed to ensure continuous safe and affordable housing, and/or improve the comfort and care of the client).
  • Works under the supervision of the manager of the legal team and collaborates with?legal staff regarding mutual clients.
  • Provides social work consultation, information, referrals, and?materials to community social workers.
  • Engages in outreach activities in the local community and maintains relationships within the community to encourage and facilitate referrals for seniors in need of legal assistance.
  • Provides supervision of staff licensed social work associates (LSWAs) and field instruction and educational supervision of LGSWs, as needed.
Qualifications:
  • 4+ years of social work or closely related experience.
  • Master's degree in Social Work or a related discipline
  • Must have D.C. Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) license.
  • Experience working with older adults, people who have mental/physical health disabilities and/or other vulnerable populations.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with benefits and service programs for lower-income residents and experience helping clients qualify for benefits and navigate systems.
  • Experience assisting clients in crisis.
  • Experience working with attorneys/legal services a plus.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
