THE POSITION

This is a fast-paced position that requires the employee to perform clerical duties and provide technical assistance to the Parole Agents and Institutional Parole Supervisor. Senate Bill 411 merged the Department of Corrections and the Pennsylvania Parole Board. This position is within the Department of Corrections.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Institutional Parole Assistant you provide clerical and technical assistance within the institutional parole office. You are responsible for controlling inmates in the parole release process by ensuring that inmates are released in accordance with laws governing release of offenders and PA Parole Board policy. You interview inmates to determine their home plan needs, monitor results of drug screening, results of home plan investigations, and status changes. In addition, you prepare release orders, letters, memos, end of month status reports, and running Criminal Histories (RAP sheets) for any needed cases on the monthly docket.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40-hour work week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 60 or 65.
  • Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience as a Clerical Assistant 2 in the Department of Corrections or Probation and Parole Board (commonwealth title); or
  • One year of complex clerical experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
