Fishtown Montessori is a caring and inclusive community situated in a vibrant and accessible neighborhood in Philadelphia, currently in our seventh school year of operations. We take pride in providing a positive and supportive work environment because we know that fulfilled adults create a loving and rich learning environment for our youngest community members. We serve up to 90 children ages 16 months through six years old between both of our neighboring buildings (two toddler classrooms, and three Primary classrooms in all). Every decision we make is guided by the question, "What is best for the child?" and rooted in the values of development, integrity, respect, empathy, communication and teamwork.

The Montessori Curriculum Director is an integral part of the senior administrative team who is responsible for overseeing and supporting the implementation of Montessori curriculum and instructional practices and to refine and maintain a high-quality Montessori program throughout the school.

This positionwill begin no later than August 1, 2024. Our current Curriculum Director will be returning frommaternity leave inJuly and transitioning to the role of Director of Admissions and Communications upon their return. There is a solid framework in place for the new Curriculum Director to step into, and they will have the support of both the current Curriculum Director, as well as the Assistant Director and Head of School.

The Montessori Curriculum Director ensures successful the day-to-day implementation of the Montessori Curriculum by fulfilling the following responsibilities:

Responsibilities Include:

  • Contribute toward creating a positive and loving and inclusive school environment for students, parents, staff, and community members that embraces and elevates diverse perspectives, cultures, backgrounds, and identities.
  • Facilitate, reflect on and refine, and/or create systems and practices that promote consistency and continuity of the curriculum within and across program levels.
  • Refine an ongoing assessment system that monitors and documents learner outcomes, and uses these results to improve educational outcomes and effectiveness.
  • Conduct regular observations of and meetings with staff members to mentor, guide, or train on the use of teaching strategies, materials, equipment and methodology, conduct formal written evaluations once every 12 months.
  • Work with the administrative team to organize, lead and conduct staff aspects of professional development throughout the school year.
  • Offer support to Lead Teachers to help them in lesson planning and implementation, as well as the design and implementation of Montessori pedagogy with respect to classroom environmental design and materials.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for any behavior guidance needs throughout the school, communicating with teachers, parents, and therapists.
  • Contribute to weekly written newsletters, and oversee and guide lead teachers to do the same.
  • Work with the Admin team to support the hiring process and ongoing oversight of employees.
  • Act as a substitute for the Director of Operations as needed.

Job Qualifications* To be eligible for the position of Curriculum Director, Employee must have a minimum of the following :

  1. A Montessori Early Childhood Teaching Certificate from AMS, AMI, or MACTE accredited institution
  2. A Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field
  3. At least 5 years in-class lead teaching experience, preferably at the Primary or Toddler levels

Compensation:

This is a 12 month salaried senior administrative position. The compensation package will include all benefits that we offer including paid time off, paid holidays, tuition reimbursement, and health, dental, and short term disability insurance as well as access to401k retirement plan. Annual salary is very competitive and informed by the candidates experience and education.
