Job Description
The Health, Safety & Environmental Coordinator is responsible for:
Managing the Columbia Plants various health, safety and environmental practices and programs designed to safeguard all employees in a working environment which is conducive to their physical wellbeing.
Maintains compliance with Federal, State and local Health, Safety and Environmental regulations
Process (Specific Duties):
Manages federal, state and local plant OSHA compliance regulations.
Develops and coordinates training for general safety, workers compensation and accident investigations.
Schedules, monitors, and recommends action based on pre-employment, return-to-work and periodic physical examinations
Responsible for the stocking of all first aid supplies at all locations in the plant.
Provides first aid treatment of on-the-job illness or injury.
Ensures that properly trained persons are available to render first aid on other shifts.
Maintains first aid treatment records and reports.
Develops and maintains emergency response and accident prevention plans. Organize and manage emergency response team.
Coordinates and schedules as necessary: PFTs, physicals, hearing assessments, and drug testing.
Maintains and reports monthly statistics pertaining to the plants safety record and corporate requirements.
Recommends action to assure that the plant complies with all federal state, and local laws related to the health and safety of employees.
Identifies opportunities for improvement and apply corrective and preventative action when discrepancies are detected.
Responsible for assuring compliance with all environmental regulations.
Processes all employee workers compensation claims. Coordinates and assists in representing the company at hearings.
Acts as the liaison for the company retained physician, schedules physical examinations, and coordinates medical reports for alleged work-related illnesses or injuries.
Coordinates the processing and payment of all indemnity and lost time claims under workers compensation.
Maintains communication with all employees absent from work with job related conditions.
Identifies and offers reasonable duties as appropriate so workers compensation disabilities do not extend further than necessary.
Authority and responsibility to stop the production line should a safety or quality issue appear.
Assists in the day-to-day management of the Environmental Management system. Following all environmental work instruction and/or cleaning up spills or other duties required of the Environmental 1st
Response Team.
Actively participates in Health, Safety and Environmental program by following all policies, procedures and work instructions that may include safety rules, safety observation audits, regulatory compliance, environmental awareness and audits, continuous improvement, investigations and the 8D process in order to develop root cause analysis for problem resolution as required.
Reports accidents, occupational illnesses, and HSE&E emergencies, and informs supervisor of known HSE&E conditions which could adversely affect other team members, assets or to the public.
Ensures compliance with all safety procedures and ensures safe working procedures in assigned production areas.
Performs all roles and responsibilities as defined by the BOS System Policies and Procedures.
Completes all required and applicable training required by Adient and its customers.
Completes other duties considered necessary by the Plant Manager.
Reviews and understand the Customer Specific Requirements.

Required Skills

Qualification Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed above are representatives of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.

Experience Requirements:
Demonstrated high-level performance in current and previous positions.
Achieved triple certification in Six Sigma, Lean, and KT or on a road-map to achieve.

Language Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability and Skills:
Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.

Other Abilities and Skills:
Must be computer literate and familiar with appropriate software programs.
Ability to create visual aids for communication purposes.
Knowledge of PC based software including word-processing, spreadsheets and email-based systems.
Required Education:
HS diploma or GED required
Education Requirements: Engineering or Health and Safety Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience ( 5-10 yrs. exp in similar role, at least 1 yr in manufacturing environment)
