The Senior Engineer will work with complex systems and equipment, while providing engineering and technical services to support our growing organization. We offer a unique and exciting opportunity to explore the best of both worlds, working both in the office and the field on a variety of interesting projects. Areas of expertise include designing new substations and infrastructure, analyzing systems and disruptions to service, working with transformers, engineering the electrical protection and control circuits that handle the flow of power, and dealing with acceptance testing of equipment, failures of equipment and analysis of system disturbances. This is a hybrid role. The first three months are full time in the office. Eversource Energy is looking for a Senior Engineer, Standards located in Berlin, CT or Manchester, NH. This individual will be involved in the evaluation and specification of material and equipment used on the Transmission and Distribution Substation System at Eversource Energy. In addition, the individual will plan and coordinate engineering assignments with projects related to the design, construction and operation of the Substation design and equipment and deal with a wide variety of field and staff functions at Eversource and our Operating Companies, as well as outside agencies and organizations. Essential Functions: Evaluation of Transmission and Distribution Substation Equipment and Materials to be used on the Electrical System. Material Specification development and Material Standard creation. Construction Standards to support field personnel with installing the Equipment. Work Method Standards to support field personnel with operating the Equipment. Equipment Performance, Reliability and Failure Analysis tracking and field and system engineering support. Works with other departments to provide technical support. Analyzes and investigates field needs; recommends appropriate solution. Supports standardization initiatives to derive at consolidated materials, design, operational and maintenance practices for all Eversource territories. Technical Knowledge/Skill: Ability to write and maintain material specifications, construction standards, and other related documentation for overhead electrical distribution equipment. Understanding of work method documentation, construction practices and procedures, and operating instruction. Understanding of electrical engineering concepts such as: Reliability (load flow, short circuit, transients, power factor) Voltage regulation & transformation Strong technical understanding of the parameters and functions used in the operation of the power delivery system, as well as power industry fundamentals, practices, and standards. Understanding of SCADA, radio communications, cellular communications, and equipment programming is preferred. Knowledge of national electric standards and codes; IEEE and the NESC. Strong communication (both verbal and written), interpersonal, presentation skills. Strong computer skills and proficiency using Microsoft products and internet applications. Other requirements include: Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must. Excellent Analytical, Technical Writing and Oral Communication skills are required. Knowledge of the principles of electricity, mechanics, hydraulics and structures. Knowledge of national code and their interpretation. Skill in the use of technical and engineering instruments and tools. Strong computer skills and proficiency using the Microsoft Office Suite and internet applications. Ability to set work priorities. Ability to maintain records, and prepare reports and correspondence related to the work. Education: A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering is required. Electrical Engineering or Power Systems is preferred. An advanced degree is preferred. Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of related experience is required. Experience in the utility industry is preferred. Substation or Transmission experience is highly desirable. Compensation and Benefits: Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program. The annual salary range for this position is $122,010.00 to $135,570.00, plus incentive. Salary is commensurate with your experience. Check out the career site for an overview of benefits.
