Our goal is to keep our seniors happy and healthy at home surrounded by their family and community.As a private, non-profit 501(C) (3) community health organization, we serve over 500k medical, dental, and behavioral health visits from more than 90k people annually. With two PACE centers located in Riverside County, our PACE program is positioned to serve over 650 senior participants.ROLE OVERVIEW and PURPOSEThe Dietary Cook works to support the mission and vision of the PACE center by supporting the overall quality of food services.This role will assist with general oversight of meal selection, preparation, service, and clean-up of food services for elderly patients at the PACE center.RESPONSIBILITIESAssists the Registered Dietitian in providing safe and therapeutic nutrition services to meet the diverse needs of patientsMaintains kitchen and cooking areas in a safe, orderly, clean, and sanitary mannerFollows the daily prep list based on the menu and ensures food is prepared in an attractive and appetizing mannerUtilizes proper tasting techniques to ensure quality flavor, including preparing ingredients by washing and chopping produce, measuring seasonings, etc.Maintains proper temperatures for both hot & cold foods, and document all temperatures on food temperature logsAssists with reviewing menus, dietary spreads, estimate food quantities and other information related to daily services to ensure compliance with dietary standards, patient diets, and general meal servicesFollows menu, recipes, portion control guides, and prepares, seasons and cooks' food in large quantities for two PACE centers.Prepares special diets and various food textures.Weighs, measures, washes, peels, cuts, grinds, breads, stirs and/or strains vegetables, fruits, meats, poultry, seafood, soups, sauces and other foods.May lead the work of dietary aides in preparing, cooking, and storing foodUtilizes proper food handling techniques, knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods, experience in using cutting tools, cookware, and bakeware.Maintains quality meal service; by following all meal tickets, dressing dishes before they are served, and performing in a timely manner.Supports meal services and post meal clean-up, including plate preparation, serving meals, and cleaning dining and kitchen areasStores prepared food items from vendor in areas with an acceptable temperature prior to meal serviceReviews logs after meals and shares patient concerns with appropriate staff, as neededChecks and calibrates kitchen thermometers regularlyAssists in the packaging and packing of meals to additional centers and home delivered mealsEDUCATION/EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma/GED requiredValid Food Handler Card requiredValid BLS certification required upon hireTwo years' food preparation and service experience required; food service experience within healthcare or social service organizations preferredADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including superior composition, typing and proofreading skillsAbility to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formKnowledgeable about and experience with proper food handling with specific dietary requirementsAbility to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneouslyExcellent planning and organizational abilityDemonstrate the ability to lead a team during the Chef's absence, as well as the ability to be supervised.Ability to work as part of a team as well as independentlyAbility to work with highly confidential information in a professional and ethical mannerPhysical RequirementsAbility to lift/carry 50 lbs/weightAbility to stand for long periods of timeCOMPLIANCE (Safety & HIPPA) Follows all safety procedures as outlined in Neighborhood Healthcare's Illness and Injury Prevention Plan (IIPP) and report any injuries and/or unsafe conditions immediately Maintains current knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to safe work practices Follows all safety procedures and report unsafe conditions Uses appropriate body mechanics to ensure an injury free environment Familiarity with location of nearest fire extinguisher and emergency exits Follows all infection control procedures including blood-borne pathogen protocols Maintains privacy of all patients, employee and volunteer information and access such information only on a need-to-know basis for business purposes Complies with all regulations regarding corporate integrity and security obligations Reports all behavior and/or activity that are unethical, fraudulent, or unlawfulNeighborhood Healthcare offers a generous benefit plan that includes:Partially company paid Medical, Dental, and Vision Plans.
