Minimum Education•High school diploma or equivalent; pharmacy technician certification required, or currentenrollment in a college of pharmacy (intern).Minimum Work Experience•Two years of previous pharmacy technician experience preferred, but not required. Retailpharmacy technician experience considered positive. Enrollment in college of pharmacy sufficient(intern).Required Skills•Knowledge and Skill: Follows general instructions. Understand several defined work routines.Reads various references, extract information, and applies basic arithmetic functions. Mayoperate basic equipment. Knowledge of basic medical and pharmaceutical terminology and basicpharmacy calculations/equivalents required.•Problem Solving/Decision Making: Makes decisions by reviewing defined alternatives. Receivesassistance from standard procedures, coworkers and/or supervisor.•Scope of Impact/Accountability: Impacts activities in other work areas on a frequent basis.Accountability is primarily indirect, nut may be shared for activities affecting the work area only.May provide information to decision-making processes affecting work area. While all technicalfunctions are checked by a registered pharmacist, employee is accountable for maintainingconsiderable concentration and accuracy while performing job functions.•Interpersonal Communication: Coordinates work with other. Conveys detailed, routine information.Provides written responses in standard format to others knowledgeable about the subject.Requires listening skills to maintain cooperative associations.Essentials Functions•The technician will work primarily in the Emergency Department and on the inpatient nursingunits.•The basic function will be to obtain accurate home medication histories by chart review, patientinterview and phone calls to retail pharmacies.•Other duties will include updating computerized home medication data bases and reconcilingthese lists to orders written upon admission to the hospital.
