Salary: $19.60 - $22.41 Hourly Location : Springfield, MA Job Type: Full-time 12 months 35 hours Job Number: 00137 Department: Financial Aid Opening Date: 10/02/2024 Description Springfield College is accepting applications for two Assistant Directors of Financial Aid. The Assistant Director analyzes student financial data; provides related counseling services for students and parents; awards financial assistance to eligible students and assists in the administration of the department. One of the two available positions has the potential of moving to an Associate Director through a mentoring and training program with the Director of Financial Aid. Ideally this candidate will have several years of Financial Aid experience and also some experience (or desire) in managing people. Training topics include: Fund Reconciliation R2T4 for Unofficial W/D and regular R2T4 checks CX/Banner reports Packaging for DMSci Administer satisfactory academic progress Audit Monitoring Task Lists Packaging OT, PT, PA, AT students Answering student inquiries Disbursement Compliance Presentations R2T4 for modules & train staff Upon completion of the mentoring and training program the salary will be commensurate. Responsibilities Provide customer service and counseling to students and families as they make decisions about college financing. Calculate eligibility determination for student financial aid awards analyzing US federal income tax forms and other financial documentation. Counsel students, potential students and parents regarding the available sources of aid and eligibility requirements; Assist students with their bills and budgeting resources; Process federal loans for students and parents and also process private loans for both students and parents; Assist in overseeing the front office, answering questions as needed and ensure accurate information is given. Answer phone calls, walk in's and personal email Utilize knowledge of the job and effective verbal & written communications to answer inquiries Foster cooperative relations both inside and outside the department Create an atmosphere that encourages students & parents to use the FAO as a resource Qualifications Bachelor's degree required with 3-5 years of directly related experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of federal and state laws governing awarding of student and parent financial assistance; Program administration and assessment, specifically with loans; Student and parent counseling techniques and guidelines with emphasis on confidentiality and empathy; Student financial aid eligibility and requirements; Computer systems utilized in designated area; Presentation of information both orally and written; Effectively communicate with students, parents and other customers; Supervise and train staff including organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work assignments; Work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community; foster a cooperative work environment; Effectively resolve problems; Effectively communicate; Manage time effectively; Ability to multi task with extreme attention to detail.
