$23.56-$26.44/ Hour JOB DESCRIPTION Reporting to the Director of External Relations, the Development Officer, Marketing and Communications is an integral part of the SPCA External Relations team and supports the organization by developing and coordinating communications and marketing strategies that compel donors to give, the public to choose us to shop, attend school, and make us their veterinary hospital, as well as stewarding customers, clients, alumni, and donors to return. This position must be able to work collaboratively as part of a fast-paced team within a dynamic organization and must have a keen interest and professional background in fundraising. PURPOSE The primary responsibility of the Development Officer is to create compelling marketing and communication materials, written content, and stories for the Nova Scotia SPCA to meet the organization’s operational and strategic goals. This role has a dual primary purpose of marketing and fundraising through content creation and writing, media purchases, and collateral design. The role will still have a responsibility to raise funds through direct marketing, proposal writing, and engaging with key stakeholders as part of their portfolio. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Marketing & Communications · Under the direction of the Director, External Relations, engage in the development and execution of a comprehensive integrated marketing communications plan. · Research, write, and edit to deadlines for diverse communications and marketing (proposals, stories, podcasts, reports) for print, web, e-communications, and social media. · Position the SPCA to maximize fund development opportunities and build relationships with partners to make the work of the SPCA possible. · Participate in the development of collateral and materials to support the SPCA’s provincial capital campaign. · Measure the results of all activities. Development Officer · Continue to maintain a small portfolio of prospects and donors as assigned. · Engage in prospecting, cultivation, and solicitation of prospective donors in relation to key priorities and projects for the organization. · Ensure all relevant information on suspects, prospects and donors is recorded in an accurate and timely manner, utilizing Raiser’s Edge to log all relationship management actions. · Participate in the planning and goal setting of the fundraising team. · Participate in prospect clearance activities including the transitioning of relationships, as needed. · Manage relationships with volunteers to advance the fundraising objectives of the SPCA. · Maintain and advance understanding of fundraising and best practices in fund development. · Maintain confidentiality of personal and private donor information, including contacts and giving history. QUALIFICATIONS · Related post-secondary education or equivalent combination or education and experience. · Ability to effectively communicate vision and key messages. · Effective presentation and public speaking skills. · Exhibits strong attention to detail, ability to prioritize actions and is achievement oriented. · Exceptional communication (oral and written) skills; Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate on initiatives with a wide variety of contacts both internal and external to the Society. · Prior successful experience managing and securing charitable gifts for a non-profit organization. · Knowledge of the Canadian charitable sector, including fundraising best practices and emerging trends, and a demonstrated commitment to professional growth. · Experience with performance evaluation and benchmarking of initiatives or projects. · Familiarity with strategic partnerships in non-profit setting. · Excellent organization and time management skills. · Adaptable and efficient with a strong commitment to success. · Operates in an ethical and accountable manner. · Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. · Ability to use sound judgement, maintain discretion, and navigate sensitive situations with integrity and flexibility. · Confident professional with proven track record of building strong relationships. · Ability to work well under pressure while modeling professionalism to staff and volunteers. · Excellent working knowledge of software applications including MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook. Must also have experience managing donor database/software (Raiser’s Edge preferred). ADDITIONAL INFORMATION · This position may require travel within Nova Scotia. Must have ability to travel and work evenings/weekends, as required. · Driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of auto insurance is required. · This role is primarily on-site in Dartmouth, with opportunities to work remotely. This role does not work in the shelter facility. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS · Working conditions may include working alone, working outside in varying weather conditions, frequent interruptions, and meetings. HOURS OF WORK Work responsibilities require a standard 40 hours per week plus additional overtime, as required, to fulfill duties associated with the position. WORK TERM This position will be a minimum of a 14-month term with the possibility of extension. Start date of August 6, 2024.
