**Job Summary**

The Service Department is responsible for servicing and installing various natural gas appliances (residential and commercial), setting and maintaining residential and light commercial meters, restoring gas service to customers, and responding to after-hours and emergency calls.

This position:

Assists in the installation of natural gas appliances, meters, and facilities in an efficient and safe manner while achieving excellent customer service.

Uses Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) to distribute and route work orders to computers mounted in company vehicles.

Lights gas pilots on natural gas residential and/or commercial appliances.

Completes minor appliance repairs.

Runs customer fuel lines.

Completes appropriate paperwork in writing and on the computer.

Safely drives a company vehicle.

**This position reports to the Companys Hendersonville Operations Center in Mills River, North Carolina.**

There is one (1) position which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidates education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

**Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience**

Gas Trainee (0-6 months)

Gas Service Specialist I (18 months)*

*highest level an applicant can be hired.

The factors to be accorded weight in determining the appropriate job level for the applicant are relative knowledge, skills, abilities, efficiency, experience, education and special training with respect to the skills required for the job opening.

Must have knowledge and skills with common hand and power tools.

Effective communication skills for positive customer interactions are critical.

Ability to work in enclosed areas such as crawl spaces, basements, and attics.

Ability to work on elevated areas such as roofs and utilize ladders, scaffolding and lifts.

Ability to adhere to safe working and defensive driving procedures.

Willingness to work as a team member within a diverse team.

Basic computer and internet navigation skills are key.

Ability to serve as a natural gas emergency responder.

Availability for overtime and after-hours, on-call work (including nights, weekends and holidays, if needed).

Must be willing and able to meet a 45-minute emergency response time from the geographical center of the Hendersonville area. Emergency response time is a critical measure for the Company and candidates are required to consistently meet this requirement, including when on-call.

Occasional heavy lifting up to 80 lbs. independently.

**Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience:**

A demonstrated knowledge of safety procedures.

A good mechanical aptitude.

A demonstrated ability to use and comprehend mathematical calculations and formulas.

**Education Requirements**

Completion of high school or equivalent (i.e., GED) is required.

**Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description**

Must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving history.

**Other Working Conditions**

Work is performed in customer's premise, as well as, outside in varying weather conditions (i.e. cold, heat, rain, etc.)

Position works around fumes, energized wires, dust/grease/oil, and in confined spaces.

Position works in enclosed areas such as crawl spaces, basements, and attics, as well as, elevated areas such as roofs and utilize ladders, scaffolding and lifts.

Position may encounter agitated/upset customers.
