Job Summary

The Director of Development provides strategic fundraising vision for the organization while implementing all related tactical work necessary to achieve established goals. This role works in partnership with the Executive Director, senior leaders, Grant Writing Consultant, Board of Directors, and org-wide staff to develop, implement, and continuously improve the systems and channels that fuel the organizations work.

Direct Reports

  • This position reports directly to the Executive Director.
  • Upon completion of a successful 90-day review, this individual will be responsible for hiring and managing the Development and Communications Coordinator.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Development (90%):

  • Shape, manage, and implement overall fundraising strategyin coordination with the Executive Director, Grant Writing Consultant, and other relevant stakeholdersto support the organizations priorities and strategic initiatives. This role will:
  • Craft and implement creative and compelling individual, major giving, and annual giving campaigns to expand the base of supporters.
  • Oversee the private and government grant funding pipeline, including the work of the Grant Writing Consultant, and contribute via relationship management and drafting select grants and reports.
  • Develop and implementin partnership with Executive Director and Business Services Managerstrategies and tactics to secure corporate sponsorships.
  • Lead and project manage fundraising events.
  • Provide strategic guidance and support to staff and board leadership in their work to build fundraising relationships and partnerships, including crafting materials to be used by staff and board.
  • Oversee the organizations use of Salesforce for non-programmatic efforts, and manage all data entry and reporting related to fundraising efforts, including donations, grants, sponsorships, etc.
  • Evaluate and continuously improve fundraising strategies and efforts communications (5%):
  • Oversee the communications efforts of the organization, including developing a high-level communications strategy that drives investments and partnerships, in collaboration with organization, board leadership, and related contractors.

Manage implementation of Social Media.

  • Hire for and manage the organizations Development and Communications Coordinator. Organizational Leadership (5%).
  • Participate in organizations high-level strategic planning and identification of key priorities.
  • Collaborate with leadership team and other relevant staff to develop and articulate the organizations value proposition and priorities.
  • Support the organizations measurement and evaluation work, including tracking against and reporting out on key performance indicators.
  • Analyze and interpret internal data and external research to support planning and development of org-wide initiatives.
  • Serve as an external-facing member of leadership when called upon.

Work Environment:

This position is performed next to our active shop training. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moderate noise levels.

Qualifications:

Required

  • A minimum of seven years of experience in nonprofit development and fundraising, with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Experience cultivating relationships with donors, major investors, funders, community partners, and more, Experience managing giving campaigns from inception to completion.
  • Strong understanding of the Institutional Giving Landscape in the region.
  • Expert written and verbal skills with a knack for distilling complex social justice and policy initiatives into compelling narratives, all through an equity and inclusion lens.
  • Knowledge and experience working with underserved individuals through approaches that emphasize resiliency, strength-based coaching, and trauma-informed care.
  • Vision for and expertise in community awareness building.
  • Ability to stay organized across multiple projects at the same time while recognizing and responding to emerging priorities.
  • Takes initiative and is able to anticipate organizational needs.
  • Ability to identify solutions to challenges and jump in to implement independently.
  • Lived experience, or at least two years experience working with diverse groups.
  • Excellent computer skills Google G Suite (Google Docs, Sheets, Forms, Gmail etc.), Microsoft Office, Excel, and the ability to learn new systems and databases with ease.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of using Salesforce as a data management platform and experience using the platform for fundraising efforts.
