How you can make a difference The Accounting Manager will lead efforts to develop an efficient and scalable accounting program for the credit union. The position is responsible for a wide array of responsibilities related to general accounting including managing and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of day-to-day GL accounting, accounting reconciliations, and monthly financial reporting. The Accounting Manager leads the accounting team and partners with leaders throughout the credit union to achieve departmental and organizational goals. The Accounting Manager will possess strong analytical skill and leadership abilities, will be highly collaborative, service focused, detail oriented, and focused on delivering high quality results. We make sure people come first Some ways we help employees live their best lives: Base Pay: This position has an annual range of $98,586 (minimum) to $147,878 (maximum), with a midpoint of $123,232. Starting pay is offered based upon an applicant's experience and education relevant to the position Paid Time Off: All Verity employees receive 11 paid holidays per year, as well as paid time off (PTO is combined vacation and sick leave.) PTO starts accruing immediately at a rate of 20 days per year Benefits: Both full and part time employees (and their family) are eligible for medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance, with a no cost option available for employee only coverage Employees have the option to enroll in our 401k plan and receive an employer match up to 6% Other Benefits: This position is eligible for annual cash bonuses up to 1% and a 1% profit-sharing bonus to 401k accounts based on company performance Great Perks: Other Verity benefits include a wellness subsidy, a transportation reimbursement benefit and education reimbursement ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Leadership and Team Management Provide leadership to accounting staff through effective communication, delegation, coaching, performance reviews, professional development planning, and goal setting. Partner with HR to recruit, interview, hire, and onboard accounting staff. Resolve staff issues through counseling, documentation, and disciplinary action according to credit union standards. Accounting Operations Oversee all accounting functions within the department to ensure effective job coverage. Monitor and ensure the consistency of all general ledger accounts, and ensure reconciliations of bank and general ledger accounts. Financial reporting and Analysis Prepare accurate month-end financial statements and reports. Assist with creating and monitoring operating budgets, and proactively address and communicate budgetary variances/issues. Regulatory Compliance Ensure NCUA 5300 call report, share insurance reports, other regulatory reports and surveys, and payroll taxes are completed and filed accurately and on time. Issue Resolution and Communication Proactively communicate and resolve accounting issues or related problems. Support to Leadership Provides support to the Controller and CFO. Works on other projects as assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or similar field. CPA Preferred Must have 3-5 years of experience in a similar role in a financial institution (credit union or bank). 2 years of experience in a supervisory role and GAAP. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Financial Reporting and Analysis: Prepare, analyze, and interpret accurate month-end financial statements and reports. Ensure timely and precise financial reporting, complying with regulatory standards. Communicate findings effectively and pay meticulous attention to detail. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all accounting practices comply with federal, state, and local financial regulations specific to credit unions. Accurately and promptly file the NCUA 5300 call report, share insurance reports, and payroll taxes. Apply comprehensive GAAP knowledge. Budgeting and Forecasting: Create and monitor operating budgets, conduct variance analysis, and address and communicate budgetary variances proactively. Support strategic financial planning with 3-5 years of experience in financial analysis and budgeting. Internal Controls and Risk Management: Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the integrity of financial information. Oversee accounting functions to ensure effective job coverage and proactively resolve accounting issues. Maintain a detail-oriented and organized approach. Leadership and Team Management: Lead the accounting staff through effective communication, delegation, coaching, performance reviews, and professional development planning. Partner with HR to recruit, interview, hire, and onboard accounting staff. Apply 3-5 years of accounting experience and leadership skills to foster a collaborative team environment. Audit Coordination: Coordinate internal and external audits, provide necessary documentation, and ensure timely resolution of audit findings. Serve as a backup for essential accounting duties. Demonstrate strong organizational skills and GAAP knowledge. Member Service Orientation: Deliver high-quality service to credit union members by ensuring financial operations enhance member satisfaction and trust. Present a positive and professional image to all employees and members. Utilize strong verbal and written communication skills to engage effectively. Analytical Thinking: Interpret financial data, identify trends, and make informed decisions using strong analytical skills. Resolve accounting issues or related problems through proactive communication. Leverage experience with interpreting complex financial data and financial analysis to provide insights. Technical Proficiency: Utilize modern accounting software and financial technology, including Fiserve DNA, wire exchange systems, Microsoft Great Plains, BlackLine, and general accounting systems, to improve financial processes and reporting accuracy. Apply technical proficiency gained from 3-5 years of experience with these systems. Ethical Conduct: Demonstrate integrity and ethical behavior in all financial activities, adhering to the credit union’s code of conduct. Foster a culture of accountability and ethical practices within the accounting team. Leverage a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and comprehensive GAAP knowledge to uphold the highest standards.
