Your Mission As the Director of EHS, you'll be a key player in safeguarding our vibrant campus community. You'll collaborate with the Executive Director of EHS to ensure compliance with OSHA, federal, state, local, and community college regulations; mitigate risks; and promote a culture of safety and well-being. This is a dynamic role that requires a blend of leadership, technical expertise, and a passion for continuous improvement. Develop and execute comprehensive EHS programs that address occupational health, environmental safety, and facility safety/compliance. In conjunction with the EHS Executive Director, guide two EHS professionals to achieve their full potential and contribute to the department's success. Stay abreast of ever-evolving regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.) and ensure Central Piedmont remains in full compliance. Design and deliver engaging training programs to empower employees with the knowledge and skills to prioritize safety. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to foster a strong network of support for EHS initiatives. Evaluate EHS performance data to identify trends, address areas for improvement, and implement data-driven solutions. Plan, organize, and manage operations and activities of college-wide health promotion clinics or programs for employees and students. Assist in evaluating third-party service providers and assess the effectiveness, quality, and impact on the college’s internal/external human assets. Manage and assist in negotiating costs related to various submitted fee schedules and other corresponding service charges. Monitor appropriate budgetary resources and funding streams to help ensure adequate rendered services as well as meeting stakeholder expectations. Research, advise, and implement infectious disease control measures for employees/students in high-risk areas to reduce adverse incident occurrences while also ensuring compliance with applicable statutes and regulatory standards. Facilitate employee training on a college-wide scale and maintain online instructional opportunities, ensuring the material is up to date and relevant. When necessary, enlist third-party co-facilitators to extend training services and provide hands-on learning opportunities. Participate with the Associate Vice President of Risk, Safety/Security and Executive Director of Environmental Health/Safety in the development and implementation of both long and short-range policy, goals, and objectives. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of professional level experience in EHS or related field. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., environmental health, safety, industrial hygiene) Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent Experience in higher education settings Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics: Leadership & Initiative: Demonstrated ability to lead teams, inspire collaboration, and drive projects from conception to completion. Technical Expertise: An understanding of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulations. Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with diverse audiences, training personnel, speaking in public, and presenting. Problem-Solving Prowess: A knack for identifying root causes of problems, devising creative solutions, and implementing them effectively. Conditions of Employment: Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check. Maintain a valid driver’s license with a good driving record. Maintain applicable/required certifications. Working Conditions: Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
