We are a nonprofit, donor-supported organization that has raised and invested billions of dollars to help develop cystic fibrosis therapies that have changed the lives of people with this disease. Nearly every CF medicine available today was made possible because of Foundation support.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Junior Accountant performs finance and accounting support work across multiple areas of finance, including financial planning & analysis, financial controls, accounting, tax, treasury, accounts payable/receivable, and credit and collections. Activities include financial transaction/data entry, financial data verification, financial records maintenance, and compiling/maintaining ad-hoc financial information. This is a hybrid role based in Bethesda, MD, and requires 2-3 days per week in the Bethesda office.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Runs financial reports and prepares financial information for tax schedules and tax forms.
  • Reviews correspondence regularly and either forwards emails to the appropriate parties or complete requests therein from various authorities.
  • Assists the Director, Tax and Compliance with the preparation and submission for state and local filings and extensions.
  • Prepares daily cash balances report and assist with cash transfers.
  • Monitors certain banking transactions and communications, providing back-up for positive pay and other banking decisions, and follow-up on uncashed checks or escheatment requirements.
  • Assists the Financial Reporting Manager in preparing and analyzing monthly variance analysis of the trial balance and financial reports, explaining variances, ensuring proper recording of transactions, and providing summaries for the Financial Planning & Analysis team.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proficient Microsoft Excel skills for reconciliations and reporting.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy of data entry, reporting, and reviewing and completing complex forms.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Analytical skills to identify discrepancies, trends and potential issues.
  • Ability to learn and become proficient with financial management systems and other software.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to ensure work is completed within deadlines.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, and temperature.
  • Stationary position - frequently.
  • No heavy lifting required.
  • Minimal travel (e.g., 2x/yr.) to conferences and meetings, as necessary.
