About the job Keiro provides programs and resources to meet the evolving needs of Our Community’s older adults and their caregivers in a culturally-sensitive manner. In everything we do, we aim to advance our mission and maximize our impact on Japanese American older adults and caregivers. Keiro programs include classes (virtually and in-person), conferences, and events for older adults and their caregivers in the Japanese American community.

We are seeking a Program Associate to help deliver programs to Our Community. In this role, you will support the Programs department in providing and producing programs for older adults and their caregivers. The Programs department’s goal is to engage the community through our various programs ranging from Keiro’s Quality of Life classes, Nikkei Senior Network, caregiver initiatives, and major events throughout the year.

A successful candidate will exhibit a background of working on a team with strong communication skills. The ideal candidate is a critical thinker who brings experience working with older adults. Knowledge of the Japanese American/Japanese community and community-based organizations is a plus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Program Development Utilizes appropriate resources and develops programs under the supervision and guidance of the Director of Programs, or designee, to support Keiro’s mission to enhance the quality of life for older adults and caregivers in Our Community. Conducts research and confirms accuracy/reliability of program content with the Director of Programs, or designee, prior to delivery of final presentation. Supports the Department’s collection of key indicators for program effectiveness, including customer satisfaction, numbers of participants, program evaluations, and utilizes the data to improve performance, design collateral resources, or modify content. Shares results, comments and feedback obtained from participants with the Department staff. Seeks feedback from Director of Programs, or designee, and uses recommended teaching and demonstration techniques to promote adult learning, including use of video conferencing, slide decks, pre- and post-testing, creation of action items to reflect participant engagement, and question & answer opportunities. Plans, coordinates, and executes program themes and content for conferences, symposiums, festivals, community center presentations and supportive group sessions under the supervision of the Director of Programs, or designee, to enhance the health and well-being of older adults and caregivers.

Service Delivery Engages with community organizations and members at in-person and virtual events. Serves as a “Keiro Ambassador” by promoting professionalism, empathy, and confidence in knowledge of program content during 1:1 personal conversations or small group or large audience settings.

Community Engagement Cultivates relationships with community organizations, senior groups, health organizations, churches/temples, and others to implement and administer programs. Participates in meetings with Nikkei Senior Network partners to facilitate organizational support between different leaders and share best practices to sustain operations.

Documentation Maintains records including notes, meeting minutes, slide presentations, scripts, evaluations, impact metrics, and media, for all Keiro -programs.

Equipment & Supplies Informs supervisor of any equipment and supply needs.

Other Ability to travel and work flexible hours. Must be self-motivated and able to work independently. Interest in working with older adults and caregivers. Performs additional duties, as assigned, to support day-to-day operations.

Core Supports Keiro’s mission and strategic priorities. Meets minimum standards of compliance, including adherence to the Code of Conduct and participation in mandatory training programs. Participates in and supports performance improvement activities. Provides customer service in an ethical, timely, accurate, efficient and respectful manner. Maintains a safe work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience 1 or more years of professional experience in public health, community health education, community engagement, aging services, or social services. Public speaking and facilitating small group conversations preferred.

Job Knowledge Understanding of the Japanese American and Japanese community and community-based organizations. Understanding of needs and resources for older adults. Understanding of needs and resources for caregivers. Understanding of user-centered design. Understanding of whole-person care.

Skills Works cooperatively with other departments and supports a total team approach to problem identification and solution creation. Skilled in effective oral and written communication abilities. Ability to perform simple to complex mathematical calculations. Skilled in PC tasks including word processing, basic accounting, database management, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, video conferencing platforms, and other software applications required for the position. Japanese bilingual preferred.

PHYSICAL & SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Must function independently, and have the flexibility, personal integrity, and ability to work effectively with participants, community members, personnel, and support agencies. Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of Keiro, which may include a health examination Must be able to push, pull, move and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds. May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of participants during emergency situations.
