As a Staff Fluidic Engineer in the R&D Engineering group, you will apply working knowledge of design and engineering principles to support multiple BD product lines of flow cytometry as well as automated sample preparation and reagent handling instruments. You will be a part of the creative team of optical, mechanical, fluidics and performance optimization engineers working on enhancements and innovative solutions for flow cytometry technologies. You will work across the R&D division at different stages of the product development cycle, and closely engage with operations and manufacturing organizations. You will specialize in the motion control systems, specimen collection devices, as well as fluid handling and precise liquid dispensing parts that will enable new design, obsolete components replacement and re-designing existing mechanical assemblies for improved performance and reliability.

Your flexibility, can-do attitude, organization, attention to detail, and commitment will accelerate our products to market and robust quality. You will actively collaborate with other mechanical engineers as well as own and lead design of sub-systems within the instrument. Your effort will empower the fields of life sciences, in vitro blood diagnostics and immunology by providing enhanced instrumentation, advancing the world of health.

Responsibilities include: • Design and document mechanical engineering solutions for highly accurate, multi-sensor, fluidic delivery systems • Perform analysis of integrated multicomponent fluid dispensing systems to ensure final product performance • Create alignment fixtures for manufacturing of designed specimen collection devices • Understand trade-offs and design to the critical system components and performance • Ensure that design solutions meet requirements of all stakeholders and the end customer • Apply and teach best practices in design, drawings, assembly documentation, and tolerance analysis • Strategically prioritize, plan and estimate work • Be a subject matter expert in CAD and PDM tools • Clearly communicate with R&D peers, leadership, service and manufacturing stakeholders • Design testing and manufacturing fixtures for the sub-systems • Managing the suppliers for timely and quality service • Ensure compliance to the company's Global Product Development System and design control requirements

Required Qualifications: • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline. • Minimum of 10 years' experience in mechanical engineering/fluidic engineering and design or graduate/phd with 3 years’ experience. • Experience in motion control design and implementation. • System integration, integration protocol testing, troubleshooting integrated fluidics issues. • Knowledge of CFD principles. • FMEA, design verification and documentation of hardware and mechanical design. • Broad experience in designing and drawing for different part fabrication techniques like machining, sheet metal, various plastic forming and molding technologies. • Strong aptitude regarding manufacturing, assembly, service and customer ergonomics. • Proficient application of SolidWorks for clean, efficient documentation including model based BOM’s, cabling, and assembly instructions • Ability to think critically, working independently, mentor junior engineers. • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Desired Qualifications:

• Ph.D Degree in Fluidic Engineering or related engineering field is preferred. • Previous work with precise fluidic delivery systems, hydrodynamic focusing flow control and microfluidics. • Previous work with mechanical modules with nanometer precision. • Heat transfer simulation and thermal analysis expertise is a plus. • Designing of mechanical systems for fluid handling is preferred. • Previous experience with FDA regulated instrumentation development is preferred.
