The role of the Security Engineer is to help architect, implement and monitor security measures for the protection of computer systems, networks, and information. The Security Engineer will help manage the operational health of multiple security tools and infrastructures, determine maintenance requirements, work with vendors to ensure optimal operations, generate, and execute daily or routine maintenance and administrative procedures, as well as work with various operations teams to execute the mission of securing the company. The individual for this position will ensure that the company knows as much as possible, as quickly as possible, about security incidents that can harm or otherwise cause a loss to the reputation of Mouser Electronics.
ACCOUNTABILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
•
Provide technical guidance and recommendations to analysts and assist them as needed.
•
Drive security efforts across the company to improve InfoSec posture.
•
Develop, execute, and track the performance of security measures to protect information and network infrastructure and computer systems that align with business needs.
•
Design computer security strategy and engineer comprehensive cybersecurity architecture.
•
Assist with the reporting, investigation, and resolution of data security incidents.
•
Identify, define, and document system security requirements and recommend solutions to management.
•
Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain security infrastructure software and hardware.
•
Install software that monitors systems and networks for security breaches and intrusions.
•
Monitor systems for irregular behavior and set up preventive measures.
•
Plan, develop, implement, and update company’s information security strategy.
•
Navigate ambiguity and exercise a moderate degree of autonomy while being proactive and creative in your approach to securing the environment.
•
Educate and train staff on information system security best practices.
•
Advise management on policies and procedures related to the IT industry.
•
Write comprehensive reports including assessment-based findings, outcomes, and propositions for further system security enhancement.
•
Provide advanced technical analysis on intrusions.
•
Ensure that we have implemented the appropriate security configurations, policies, processes, and procedures.
•
Maintain good verbal communication skills; communicate effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues at all levels in the organization.
•
Attend internal and external training as necessary to keep up to date with the latest technology.
•
Exhibit a flexible approach to working on a rotational basis and provide necessary cover where needed.
•
Work within relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
•
Perform complex troubleshooting of security vulnerabilities.
•
Develop and carry out information security plans and policies, strategies to respond to and recover from a security breach, incident response plans, and conduct tabletop exercises.
•
Develop or implement open source/third-party tools to assist in detection, prevention, and analysis of security threats.
•
Develop and conduct awareness training of the workforce on information security standards, policies, and best practices.
•
Implement layered protections; Installation and use of firewalls, data encryption and other security products and procedures.
•
Conduct periodic network scans to find any vulnerability.
•
Be an escalation point for analysts regarding monitoring networks and systems for security breaches, using software that detects intrusions and anomalous system behavior.
•
Investigate security breaches.
•
Lead incident response, including steps to minimize the impact and then conducting a technical and forensic investigation into how the breach happened and the extent of the damage.
SKILLS & CERTIFICATIONS
•
Proven experience developing, operating, and maintaining security systems.
•
Knowledge of Operating System (OS) hardening. Preferred platforms include Windows (Client & Server), UNIX/Linux and Hypervisors
•
Proficiency in networking technologies, network security and network monitoring solutions
•
Knowledge of security systems including anti-virus applications, content filtering, firewalls, authentication systems and intrusion detection and notification systems
•
In-depth knowledge of security protocols and principles
•
Certifications such as CCNP, GIAC or CISSP is an added advantage.
•
General knowledge of OS-level scripting languages (Bash, KornShell, PowerShell, Python, etc.) a plus
•
General knowledge of Active Directory (AD), Intrusion Detection and Cloud Technology (Azure), infrastructure as code, a plus
•
Critical thinking skills and ability to solve complex problems.
IT Security Engineer
Requirements
•
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
•
6+ years Information Security Infrastructure, Systems, Applications, design, and engineering experience required. For internal candidates, experience can be a combination of internal and external experience.
