**Summary**:

The Director of Pharmacy will develop, oversee and maintain high-quality, cost-effective integrated pharmacy programs. The Director of Pharmacy will exercise management responsibility in order to meet the needs of patients, physicians, and staff in a manner consistent with UNC Health Care's values and mission statement. Specific areas of responsibility are not limited to, but will include: Specialty and Home Delivery Pharmacy.

**Responsibilities**:

1. Scope of Pharmacy Practice - Responsible for directing specialty and home delivery pharmacy operations, strategies, policies and procedures, budget process, project implementations, human resource management and committee representation. The Director of Pharmacy is responsible for insuring compliance and other regulatory standards, implementing and monitoring financial controls to insure effective utilization of resources through budgeting and analysis of management reports, development of staff and services, as well as organizational performance improvement, quality management, evidence based outcome and setting the communication tone, values and culture of the health system. Collaboration with clinical leadership to develop drug use initiatives and assure appropriate use of pharmaceuticals. The Pharmacy Director will be responsible for the execution and consistent implementation of drug use initiatives and Pharmacy care management initiatives. Collaboration with Patient Safety Leadership to develop quality initiatives, processes and tools. The position is be responsible for the execution and consistent implementation of quality initiatives across all pharmacy practice settings. He or she will also be responsible for ensuring enforcement of all applicable policies, standards and regulations related to Medication Safety, Medication Management and AR&L (Accreditation, Regulatory and Licensing). Collaboration with Pharmacy Informatics personnel to ensure successful implementation and maintenance of technology systems and to contribute to the development of technology innovation.

Achievement of pharmacy productivity targets, goals and performance metrics. Collaboration with the UNCHCS Compliance Officer to ensure adherence with Pharmacy Compliance Plans and to ensure Corrective Action Plans are developed and completed in response to Compliance issues. Responsibility for leadership over compliance related to Pharmacy Operations. Participates in the pharmacy residency programs as a preceptor in training future pharmacy practitioner / leaders. Maintains a successful and highly collaborative, high quality training environment for student pharmacists. Develop strategy and plans for recruitment, training, and workforce development in Specialty and Home Delivery Pharmacy Operations and services. Collaboration with designated Service Line Leaders to develop policies, procedures, systems, tools and communication strategies to ensure compliance with Pharmacy Laws and regulations in all regional Pharmacy Operations and Services. Ensure operational compliance with policies, procedures, systems, tools and communication strategies applicable to supply chain requirements. Development of opportunities for the continued education and professional development of staff. Actively supports and maintains productive, respectful relationships with internal and external customers and vendor partners.

3. Leading Quality & Service - Initiates and manages the change process, taking steps to remove barriers or accelerate its pace. Communicates a compelling vision and need for change that generates excitement, enthusiasm, and commitment to the process. Clearly communicates the direction, required performance, and challenges of change to all involved parties. Identifies and enlists the support of key individuals and groups to move the change forward. Obtains and provides resources to implement change initiatives. Serves as a role model by demonstrating commitment to innovation and continuous improvement in organizational performance. Participate, Lead, and/or Sponsor quality improvement projects and events.

**Education Requirements:**

? Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy required. Masters degree in Pharmacy, Health Services, Business Administration, or related field is strongly preferred.

**Licensure/Certification Requirements:**

? Eligible for licensure as a Registered Pharmacist in NC. Licensure from NC Board of Pharmacy required within 6 months of orientation date or sooner if required for operations.

**Professional Experience Requirements:**

? Seven years of pharmacist experience or equivalent, of which four years must be of pharmacy supervisory experience; proven management skills, including program planning and development, project management, finance, performance, quality and/or human resource management.
